I'll be staying here for a week over the festive period - looking for some live action if anyone knows of any.

I know there's a small pub mtt in one pub (The Brass Monkey) on a Thursday, but am looking for more choice.. and a decent buyin size.

    any help /info appreciated

I am in the process of setting up a cardrooom at the moment in Newry. Have to be a bit discreet cos of the legal status, but we will have a varied selection of games with decent structures. I am running a test tournament this wkend to guage interest and will go from there as regards buyins.

Would love some input from the likes of Carfax, Big Slick, JP poker, DeV et al. cos i am having difficulty deciding about the initial stakes. Was thinking £25 stg with one optional £20 rebuy/top-up. £5 for the house and the rest for the prizepool?? Anyone any thoughts or criticisms?

i live just outside newry and i personally wudnt go into town to pay 25 % registration, if u made it 50 +5 wit a good decent structure and dealers i wud be interested. where are u thinkin of holdin this??

I know wot ye mean Pete, i am in a dilemma about the buyins and reg.
I ran a place before, and historically the best attended game with the most £££ was a ten pound rebuy. A £50 freezeout with £5 registration was one of my initial thoughts too, but for that to be a decent game for the players and a profitable game for the house, we would need 30+ runners. I doubt that we would get that, hence the compromise. Maybe 25+25? I am only throwing these figures out as a suggestion :)

I would def. be a regular visitor if you get it up and running. Recently moved there, and desperately trying to find a good game.

Still driving to Dublin if I need my regular fix.

Good stuff, welcome to the area :) Where do you play in Dublin?
Am gonna make an effort to get down there more often in 2008, have hardly played a game the past 2 years. Someone asked me to look into a "scalps" game. do u know wot this it? Have seen it mentioned on boards a few times, but not sure how it goes?

i live just south of the border and would also be very interested in this. I guess it would be a hush hush job incase it followed suit and gets closed like the rest. With the risk of this, you prob cant afford to invest too much into it, or am i wrong here? If the location is good, nice/good dealers, a waiter and well advertised . . . then wither it is a 25/10/50 buy in doesnt really matter IMHO

pm me the location you plan on having it please and any questions ya want

    best of luck with it

well u probably shud get some cash games runnin along side the tournament as that is where you will make most of your money (but dont overdo the rake) wat sort of structure have u got in mind for this, as that is very important in gettin a good number of runners.

Yeah we will be running cash games and/or SNG's as the tournaments progress. Some fellas i know will only be going there for the cash games. I am thinking 4% rake when people cash in, but again i am only throwing ideas out.
Have had 30 requests for info 2day, and we only thought about it on monday! :D
As regards structure, this will depend on the buyins and time that the tournys start, which is a bit of a wooly answer i know. I was thinking 20 minute blinds tho as a starting point?

20 minute blinds wud be ok as a startin point but u wud have to include all the levels as it wud b a crap shoot without them, and i hope it is goin to be dealer dealt????

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 365 ✭✭mocata

Aye, I will be using all levels, 75/150 etc. Havent actually decided about dealers yet, I doubt i could get enough to pay dealers a wage out of £5 registration TBH. Having said that, i know perfectly well how much dealers improve people's experience, and wouldnt play a tourny meself without them. The only problem is that the £££ for them has to come from somewhere, so the reg would have to reflect that.
