Ever since the episode that featured the future in Series One which was absolutely brilliant, Is it only me, that has been let down by the substandard episodes that have been feed to us. The season finale for Season One was absolutlely terrible and cheated the viewer as I expected a climatic battle but received a ending that wouldnt even be fitting of an ad break no mind a season finale. I've watched the first 9 episodes in absolute horror, because a show that offered so much has not only failed to deliever but has short changed viewers with the same tedious storylines like Claire fitting to fit in her school life, Hiro + Peter coming to terms with his abilities, Nikki fighting her inner demons, this is the first series, we've done all this, IM BORED WITH THIS U SHORTCHANGED THE SEASON FINALE AND NOW URE SHORTCHANGING THE SECOND SEASON!!!!!!!!!

THE STRIKE SHOULD OF HAPPENED SOONER SO MAYBE MORE CREATIVE WRITERS COULD ADD SOMETHING TO THIS SERIES THAT IS DYING ON ITS FEET!!!

i'd appreciate to hear from others who feel so dejected by what we have been offered plzzzz!!!

How many episodes did it take for the first season to kick off? Personally I am liking it. And there are only two episodes left anyway.

I wouldn't say cheated but it has been very disappointing. The plot is all over the place and the story doesn't flow like it did last year. The new characters they brought in are awful, especially L, how more annoying could they make her. They bring in the Irish girl and the two Latino's yet with the series nearly over I'm still wondering what their parts are. If you took them out then the story would still be the same. Too much Hiro in the past, not enough Sylar, too much of Claire prancing around with superman, etc. At least the director has come out and acknowledged all of this and apologised to the fans. Hopefully he can make amends in series 3 as the show has potential.

I quite like it, but as threads about this season have shown the honeymoon is over and people are ready to tear the show to shreds for what they let slide in the first season.

    Basically, you are wrong.
The series isn't "dying on it's feet", it's been paced pretty much the same as season one and has taken a few mis steps, much like season one.

Also, typing in all caps doesn't make your point more valid.

I'm quite enjoying this season (apart from the Cork episodes) I think its been really good just as good as last season.
I also like Elle :)great addition to the show.

it seems more like an Intermission than a Volume. Honestly.

I spent the last 3 days watching through volume one again and then when it got to episode 23... then volume two... i mean fcukit: I just turned it off. not because it was recent, but because it was crap: whereas this time last year i would have watched the first 10 episodes of the series about 4 times by now. I didnt mind the finale from season one but yes: it seemed rushed, and could have been better, but at least it left you with some good open threads like Hiro in Feudal Japan and Sylar disappearing to the sewers. Now the only thing we look forward to each week is to see which sh1tty addition to the show gets the least screen time.

Kring himself said while 'Volume One was ordinary people doing extraordinary things, Volume Two is going to be about extraoirdinary people being ordinary.' Seriously, was he insane?

Theyre quickly running out of their 9 lives. Volume 3 will have to be a spectacular rebirth to keep the series alive.

If you compare the first twelve of last year to the first twelve of this year, I think the latter comes out trumps it's just unfortunate that a writer's strike will force it to end halfway through

I completely agree. Heroes was a breath of fresh air last year, but season one ended with a lame whimper instead of a bang like we were all expecting. Since then the show has struggled to remain even mildly engaging.
The introduction of the South American twins, along with Mikah's (sp?) cousin, and the writers' continuing inability to make Mohinder anything but an annoyance means that new episodes are packed with subplots that are impossible to connect with. As a result, episodes feel disjointed, rushed and more like extended trailers for the episodes we should be seeing. Episode 9 was a bit of an improvement, and did show some promise, but it's too little too late.
    Basically, you are wrong.
    Nice attitude.
Just because you are entertained by subpar TV does not mean they're wrong, it means you're retarded.
Perhaps I could interest you in some Home & Away?

silence, demon. I wont be listening to a flame war. We're all watching the same thing here, so give it a rest.

Cheese has a point though about the honeymoon period though.

I dont get why so many people disagreed with Feudal Japan either: I thought it was a nice change, even if it was spread thinly across too many episodes. imo it could have benefited from the same 3 or 4 arc structure that the last episode [9 - Cautionary Tales] just did.
the whole season could really: I wonder if they spent more time in less frequent episodes fleshing out the wondertwins maybe people would actually enjoying watching them...

I think what really, really threw everyone off the optimistic outlook this year: Cork. Let it go. Its over now. Ssshhh ssh ssh sshhhh......... Its ok now. Well, strike that :p I just remembered thats were Nathan went. Point being though yes, it was awful and ignorant and insulting to a point; but learn to forgive it.

I just watched episode 9 anyway and if the last 2 episodes here are some of the same I'll certainly give them a return of an open outlook for Volume 3... whenever that may be.

Who knows why the episodes were 'substandard'. I suppose a lot of it had to do with the increasing pressure from NBC. Hopefully though the writers are working in an underground bunker somewhere, or are at least taking the time on strike to consider where they want to go next. Im fairly sure though the strike stipulates they are not allowed to actually 'write' but I hope Im completely wrong, as it would be nice to come straight back from the strike and have a seasons worth of notes waiting to be scripted.

i think season 1 is pretty well made:D

love the fast pace blood pumping with little relaxing small stories(those claire ,niki, mika, waitress ,many character stories). It is a very entertaining show:Dwe definitely can see there is a genius behind it

p/s:especially think of Lost and prison break...ohmy...i just felt like i am wasting my time on them, plus feel like a low IQ on prison break...

Any more personal insults and I'm handing out temp bans so you lot can cool down abit,

We all have our own views of how good/bad heroes season 1 and 2 and certain episodes have been but there's no reason to revert to name calling.

    Cabaal,

    Dammit Cabaal, you're too quick.

I came in here to ready to swing the ol' banning stick and here you are handing out warnings :)

The rest of you -- play nice. This is the second time in days I've seen reported posts about personal abuse. Never would have happened during season one! *grumble*

Maybe I am wrong and this series is brilliant but when I personally cant rememember one element of the first 7 episodes that was remotely entertaining, "BOB" and the mystery of the coporation is such a travesty because we know so little about them that they dont even take the place of Sylar.

Maybe im harping on a bit, but like in the 1st chapter of a book, the first series is there to introduce the characters explain a bit about them so i think the 1st series was good, its meant to be slow burning but this series hasnt moved any forward. Im a massive fan of dexter and I can see progression in almost every character in series two something that is severely lacking in Heroes.

The first Series always had the dark element of Sylar + the expolsion and Mr Bennet running throughout the series and we knew that Sylar was going to be the significant character of the show. His threat kept the first series ticking over nicely even through the mundane episodes but the dark elements are so poorly written that there is a vacuum for a good + evil scenario.

Claire, Sureesh,Parkman + Hiro were always the poorer characters of this franchise but omg theyve had more screen time than Sylar + Peter in this whole series. And Cmon in episode 9 when sureesh shoots Bennet when he is was working undercover for Bennet under the say so of Bob who wanted to see new york blow up + create a vaccine to get rid of their powers - weak writing, weak performances

    Bring on the Writers strike!!!

They should give a warning and a timer everytime the Wonder twins come on, so that we can go make tea or something and not waste those precious minutes of our lives.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 86,729 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

I disagree with Hiro being a weak element in the series: in fact hes been absolutely integral. Look now: he was the one that found out the most about the bomb (via time travel) he was the one that warned Peter about the cheerleader; attempted to fix time, etc. and now is the antagonist behind Adam we can imagine.

I will admit I want to see peter do something more. Too many times we've been promised a showdown and been upset. But in fairness if those two were really unleashed on eachother? would it be 'too much'? Like, in X-men if 2 mutants had as much power, it would be .... fcuked. Look when Sylar steal's Ted Sprague's power; so in control of his abilities at the time its frightening - throwing over vehicles with a finger flick, tuned in to every little noise. Now hes all banjaxed. What happens now?

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 30,662 Mod ✭✭✭✭Faith

At the end of the day, if Sylar and Peter fought with their powers, Sylar would kick Peter's ass pretty soon. Look at episode 19 in season 1, Peter went invisible and still didn't have the sense to stay facing Sylar. He turned away and didn't even duck when the glass went flying. Thing is though, Peter can heal and eventually the battle would get kinda boring and drawn out. Either Peter is unkillable (which would make us all complain that the writers keep rehashing the same story line) or Sylar would kill him - and I think Peter's too important to be killed any time in the near future.

I'm certainly not as into the series as I was last season...

I think the fact that I'm not designing a new sig each week anymore speaks volumes about my current level of interest in the show.

Actually, Petrelli's beard was real. I was surprised myself (it looked awful) but he had the beard in a few photos I saw from a premier or awards show or whatever.

I posted my rant here http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=54527441#post54527441
But it should probably be in this thread.

    ----
    S2E10 Spoilers:
No the episode is obviously building up to Mohinder reviving Sylar with Claire's blood. Another part of the "right place at the right time" plot device the writer LOVES to use in this show. First boy Claire meets has powers and was abducted by daddy. Sylar meeting twins in middle of nowhere. Arrrgh. It seems to be worse than season 1.

Since I am ranting about Heroes already, why are most of the characters writen to be such easily manipulated dumbasses? Peter especially is an annoyance, not getting suspicious and try to read Adam's mind after that lady's reaction? Meh? And the last scene was lame. Time stopped, all the f**king time in the word to have a little chat and what does Hiro and Peter do?

And there are too many plot holes and stupid things in the show that makes no sense. Why the hell does Hiro never go back to where he was before? Spent a week in feudal Japan great, teleport back to when the bomb exploded like you never left and tell Ando about your adventures. Why did they assume Peter and Sylar was dead at the start of the show? Afterall Nathan was ok and no Sylar coprse, Molly couldn't be used to locate locate them? Arrgh, I think I hate this show now.

Ohh, almost forgot to mention the lame prison facility they put Adam and Peter in. Their most important prisoners can talk through a hole in the wall? There's no surveillance in the cells? The bad writing makes me cry.

The poor storylines I can sort of put up with but the horrendously poor acting and dialogue makes me cringe. Its like watching a day time soap opera ala Days of our Lives.

Heroes still beats anything else on tv right now hands down. can't think of another series I tune into with such anticipation each week, but then BSG and the Doc are not back yet, so perhaps it is good it is not competing with these.
Oh and if anyone would care to suggest a series that might compete, please feel free.

Dexter. I'm not saying heroes is bad but comparing it to something like Dexter makes it look like dog poo.

Four episodes into Season One of Dexter at the minute. Quite good so far.. maybe not shockingly fantastic but four solid epps so far anyway.

I assume it keeps up the pace? What are they on now, season two?

It only gets better. It's on season 2 episode 10 now and so far season 2 has been great, the last couple of episodes have been excellent though. Just check out the episode discussion threads in the dexter forum. There has only been threads about the past four or so episodes but I don't think any one has voted meh or worse in any of the threads.

What's Dexter about? And is there anyone as hot as Sylar in it? I'm going to need something to fill the void, particularly if Lost doesn't come back.

It's about a serial killer, more or less. Seems to be a bit of an American Psycho type so far... only more likable.

And Michael C. Hall, who plays Dexter, isn't too harsh on the eyes.

No, there was a definite difference all round. If you watch a random episode from Season 1, then a random episode from Season 2, you'll notice the writing is much better in the Season 1 episode.

Well with the way season 2 ended with sylar an all hopefully season 3 will be better
