I'm in the market for an MP3 player.

    My requirements are

    Doesn't need a HDD. 8Gb - 16Gb is fine.
Absolutely has to have a radio.
Video would be nice. Playing normal divx/xvid without messing about converting would be even nicer.

I was looking at the 8Gb version of this.
    http://ie.europe.creative.com/shop/product.asp?category=10&subcategory=30&product=16999&ucmsid=true&nav=

The price on Creatives site is a bit pricey though and it's a lot cheaper from the play.com or amazon but they don't ship to Ireland.

Does anybody know where I can get this in Ireland at a reasonably good price or would you recommend any alternatives.

    sony05Large.jpg

    139.95 + 12.50 delivery

I can't recommend the player itself as I don't know anything about it. You'll have to find a review site.

Offer will run out 11PM on the 21st, could sell out sooner.

the software you get with sony is awful. avoid it at all costs.

creative are definitely worth looking at. i got a 30gb Zen Vision M for 210 quid. its a refurbished model but that doesn't bother me. their customer support is excellent and as they are based in Sandyford, problems are quickly sorted.

The Sony one doesn't have a radio. Thanks for the reccomendation though.

I had a look at the Creative refurbished stuff. I'd buy one of those Vision Ms but how do you know how much it was used. I don't want to get one that has a crappy battery.

Yes its true, do not install Sony Connect. I hate that program with a passion. It makes Itunes look like the best thing since sliced bread.

I can recommend the Sandisk Sansa E200 range, the E280 is 8gb, plus it has a micro sd slot if you need more space, there are a huge amount of reviews for this, just google them. One thing I will point out though is get the US version, it has the radio, the European version doesn't. There is absolutely no other difference, they charge via usb so ther isn't even a votage difference to worry about. There are loads of the US versions with radio on ebay, and yes, thats where I got mine and it's excellent.

Actually, that Sony one appears to be a really good deal. It's getting good reviews and Sony has dumped its annoying Sonicstage software. You can just drag and drop your MP3s onto the player now.

Also the speakers come with a subwoofer and are meant to deliver an impressive punch.

its currently cheaper than that on Amazon - I know they don't deliver here but if they're cheaper than Ibood then you can be sure other places are too.

EDIT - actually forgot about the speaker-dock. It is probably a decent deal after all...

that 8gb sansa (with radio) is available on expansys.ie for €120.95 + delivery. My wife has the 2gb version (paid 90 for it last year!) and loves it. You can also expand the capacity by adding a microsd card...

    Second that.
I have a radio version which I got in US last yr.
Never heard about European version not having radio.
You can get it with radio from UK here

I think the newer versions in Europe have the radio, the earlier ones certainly didn't - that site is very expensive though, they are at least £30 cheaper on ebay.

They had refurbished 30Gb Zen vision Ms going on the creative website last week for 130euro. Not sure if there are any still available, but i'd go for one of those. Good battery, great picture quality for videos, and doesn't have all that RMA crap like the ipods

I got a brand new Creative Zen last week. Standard price of €200 for the 8gb unit. it certainly ticks all the OP's boxes. Terrific piece of kit IMO.

I know this isn't really a bargain but still...

I know somebody that ordered that exact one, 8gb on pixmania, think it is €169 delivered. It is intended as a present so they wont have it until 2-3weeks. Cant comment until then, I will be setting it up for them. Looks great to me, I selected it for them. there is a full thread on it in the DAP forum

the expansion SD slot is the seller in my book, and the big screen. SD cards are dropping all the time, so by the time they have filled the 8gb (small music collection) they will be dirt cheap, and can be used as a memory stick in a laptop etc.

Wow that was a decent iBood, seeing as it's the new model. I was certain it would be the older NWA800 series that they're trying to get rid of....with the speaker dock that was a sweet deal. Amazon had it at thr weekend with a speaker dock for around £120stg, but that was a very limited offer.
Definitely the best mp3 player I've listened to, including sony's older models. No radio but meh, it's all sh*te anyhow...

I found this site today last night when looking for the Sony specs.
    advancedmp3players.co.uk

They ship to Ireland so I ordered the Zen from there today. I didn't know about Pixmania (I can't access Boards in work) so it's a little bit pricier.

It was a toss up between the Sansa and the Zen. The clincher was that I've to do a fair bit of travel for work over the next couple of months and the bigger screen will do me for the odd downloaded programme when I'm sitting on planes.

Blanchardstown, actually. :) Although all returns are done via Poland these days.....

Manufacturers have to pay a levy on players coming into the EU with an FM tuner on them. This means some of the cheaper makes don't have them included to keep the cost down.

That creative looks great but creatives are known as being less reliable than ipods(Speaking of that contraption mine broke last nite but seems to be fine now)

I only know one person who has managed to still have a working ipod two years after they bought it. The had to have it repaired, of course.
