I will have to send a passport and few other important documents to an embassy in London. Whats the best postal option to use? Is registered An Post ok? Or is DHL/UPS safer? The speed of delivery is not that important, its the safety I am concerned about.

    Thanks.

    ??

Why do people always use AH as the first option before bothering to try and find out info for themselves.

Have you asked google? Have you asked An Post? Have you asked the embassy?

Will there be anthrax sprinkled on the documents?

Register it at the post office. They'll put it in the right sized envelope and everything.

Carrier pigeon is worth a try also.

Have you checked that the embassy in question don't use the services of one of their friendly nearby countries that do have one in ireland before you start posting your passport away?

    Embassy is best, diplomatic post.

Its for Australian Visa, and the website said the nearest embassy is in London. Also, the website specifies one can send it by post or courier. So all I was trying to find out what's peoples' experience with sending important documents away. For example from personal experience I can confirm that it once took An Post Swift Post 1 month to get to destination ( Eastern Europe). So thanks for helpful answers, and all the rest leave your negativity and " look up on Google" comments and either say something relevant or say nothing at all.

Using Google,as others have suggested, I found this:
    the Australian Embassy in Ireland
    (http://www.ireland.embassy.gov.au/)

Why not drop the documents in personally if security is so critical?

Thanks for that. Will look into it. I used the link below. Clearly there is misinformation somewhere along the line, if the government website does not have an up-to-date infromation about its office locations.
