Does anyone know if it is allowed to climb to the top of a pyramid in Egypt?

Definitely not allowed. I have heard that some have tried it very very early in the morning but you can easily get caught.

I even took a tiny tiny bottlesworth of desert sand from the foot of the pyramids and sphynx and one of the local Egyptian boys seemed to be very angry with me for doing so.

Is it a jail offence or a simple get down here now! I wonder. The shame if it all crumbled underneath your shoe..

Yeah it's completely banned. Not a good idea either, you'll destroy the monument climbing on it, it looks a lot more fragile up close, you know!

You can try but the guards with the AK-47's may use you for target practice.
Pity though I love that scene in Gallipoli and getting there only to find it's a big no no.

The number of armed police in Egypt has to be seen to be believed. When I went to the pyramids in Cairo an archeologist went up to check on the door of the great pyramid. The police didn't recognise him and pandemonium broke out. Not advised.
