    Okay, here's how she lies

SkyHD box in Living room, HDMI feed to TV in Living room
RF out via splitter to Kitchen and Bedroom, both rooms with magic eyes

New HD TV on the way for Bedroom

Plan is to leave all above as is, except hook up new TV via the Component out on the SkyHD box via 15M (long run unfortunately) with Audio L+R 15M run also, leaving existing RF feed to retain magic eye remote functionaly.

Anyone out there already done this?
Any issues, specifically the HD box component strength over a 15M run

    TIA

Would a 15m hdmi cable (& hdmi splitter in living room) be a better option?

hmdi is more sensitive than component AFAIK and a long run - apart from a splitter - may also require a "repeater" thingy, v. expensive compared to component run
would give the best quality but at a serious premium

I'd go with a hdmi router as I have used this myself, you may find that only one output will work at any one time.

"should" be okay on both outputs working at the same time

would you have a ballpark figure on a HDMI router and 15M HDMI lead Tony?

for teh cable use www.bluejeanscable.com. american based, but excellent prices for top notch cable, which it will have to be for a hdmi run of 15m . i have a 12m hdmi from these guys running for my projector and it will do 1080p no problem. i think all their cables are guaranteed to do 1080p.

maybe the guarantee to 1080p doesn't cover the whole range then, would be surprised if a cable could do 1080p at 100ft without equalization...

    actually, from the webpage

The acid test of any HDMI cable is its ability to convey signal over distance, and here the Series-1 Bonded-Pair cable excels; in our in-use testing, we have run 1080p/60 video 125 feet without degradation.

    so there!!

well for me it has to be component as I have the HDMI out on the SkyHD box occupied and I'm not going to invest in a HDMI splitter and long splitter lead, just too much bucks

thinking of something along the lines of this guy from ebay, about a ton

    or from linkage above
Belden 1694A Component Video Cables, £62.20 about €90
    http://www.bluejeanscable.co.uk/store/component/index.htm

    or £65 ex P+P
    http://www.tvcables.co.uk/cgi-bin/tvcables/15m-component-video-cable-37535.html

really would like to get these cable costs down, anyone with any purchasing history of component leads that can take 1080i over 15M???

@ mossym, when you ordered off that crowd did you use their UK site or US site and have you got caught for any duties/vat with delivery?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 8,766 Mod ✭✭✭✭mossym

i used the uk site, but from what i have seen they ship everything from the us. when i bought my 12m hidmi and 12m component though i had them shipped to a friend in the usa and he sent them onto me through work so no chance of customs. my speaker cable sailed through, but that wasn't 90 euros worh.

i can tell you the component cables will do 1080p over 12m..so should have no issues with 1080i over 15, if i recall correctly 1080i takes less bandwith than 720p
