Hey guys, was away at the weekend in Germany and bought a Wii for a mate for 250 euro. Came back and he'd got one in Argos in Dundrum so didnt need it.

Put it on Ebay at a reserve of 250 to guarantee me my money back, and I kid you not is sold for 650 euro!!

That is madness, they're good but they're not that good. Crazy.

Haha, there are an awful lot of suckers out there!:p
I honestly never imagined that the Wii would still be this popular a year after launch

Did the person who bought it have an african address? I tried to sell some stuff on ebay recently and it was dodgy nigerians who agree the sale, then send a spurious 'paypal' 'receipt' and then demand you ship the item, followed by 'paypal' emails threatening to take legal action as you've been paid etc etc etc...

Is Nigeria the world capital of Phishing or what?

a friend of mine recently sold a couch and a dinner table and chairs on ebay - same deal a nigerian bidder offered the asking price. Didn't pay paypal but instead posted a cheque for €8000 demanding the change in cash. Curious my mate brough the cheque to the gardai 2 weeks later (wanted to hold onto it for a while to see if he heard anything more from the bidder). The gards told him that it was a money laundering scam and he was more than likely caught as he had heard nothing from him in 2 weeks. He was told to keep the cheque and he subsequently sold the couch etc to a legit bidder. Sweet deal - just proves that not all Nigerians are looking to screw you over :D

    PS: OP you jammy b&6%*£d

The cheque cleared? You sure?
I thought these scams worked by using dud drafts and cheques that the bank will honour but after 2-3 weeks the bank confirms it's a dud and start looking for the money back.

yup cleared. He brought the cash into the gards with him and was told to keep it.

I know somone who was caught badly by somthing similar. Recived a cheque for more then the item being sold was worth. Buyer said it was an accident and could they send back the blanace by Westeren Union Money transfer. They had lodged the cheque and it had cleared so they did it. Bank figured out the cheque was stolen/fake withdrew the full amount back from their account leaving the poor seller in the hole for a few thousand!

OP your a jammy fecker!! :D

I think the trick with those scams is that it clears at the start, but as someone else says, a few weeks later the cash is withdrawn by the bank when they realise its dodgy.

Jesus-there must really be some shortage this year or else some people are just mad--Ive just been offered €550 cash from one of the lads here for my Wii which I havent switched on since June.

I feel bad selling it to him at that price but really cant turn an offer like that down.

Jesus im cursed , another 0 feedback bidder from Tipperary (damn ebay only seems to let you block bidders with -1 or less). First winner has yet to contact me, and the new winner has yet to pay, its only a few hours since end but im having my doubts already. There must be a load of women in Tipp who like to win auctions and dont like to pay.

Putting me off ever sellling on ebay again, and will probably take months to claim back the fees!

    I officially hate Tipperary!

oh and i got an ebay message during the auction from a chinese scammer with the user name Trishareilly!
