currys are offering this at the moment for €2499 euros what do you think?

It includes the stand and undeneath speaker.
They first tried to sell 5 yr guarantee for €980

then 3 yrs for €400- Do pioneer not offer a 2 yr anyway?

I know its not the newer 508 but still it has got some great reviews over the last few months

    http://www.trustedreviews.com/tvs/review/2006/12/16/Pioneer-PDP-507XD-50in-Plasma-TV/p1

It mentions something about being unable to take pictures from a 1080p upscaling dvd player at 50/60Hz. but it can take it at 24 over 1080p via HDMI

I thought 24 over 1080 was the most important rather than 50/60 or am i missing something?

Any one got the set and what do they think?

While pioneer are undoubtedly one of the best Plasma providers out there , for that kind of money I would be expecting a 1920 x 1080 these days and not a 1366 x 768.

You cannot fault the picture quality on that set , but keeping in mind whats available these days and how good some of the other 1080p plasmas are , I would be thinking twice.

And paying that kind of money for an extended warranty is crazy , you consumer rights and the basic warranty are all you need , there is a law on " reasonable working life "

Remember , " Extended warranties , how can I lose " was Homer simpsons line after he had the crayon hammered back into his brain.

Good point. I have had reason to test my consumer rights recently. My first and only foray in hdtv was 2 years ago i bought one of those dell tv w2600 got it for €515 (a month previously it was €1200). fab tv with sky etc. anway after 16 months it would no longer switch on. Rang Dell -sorry sir you have exceeded your 12 months warrinty but we can get you a new one for €1000.

I asked the person was it accepable in their view that a tv 16 months old stops working and cant be repaired. i mentioned it was not fit for purpose etc.
when I mentioned consumer rigths the person changed their tone immediatly and offered me a replacment within 3 day with a 3 month warrinty on it. So yes any tv should automatilly be covered for a least 2 years

anyway back to the topic of the Pioneer. I am currently building a new home and should be in it by FEB/Mar 08 so can prob wait till then. that new pioneer lx508xd looks amazing but the price is also AMAZING!

I have a few questions does anyone know what price the 507 was in early 2007. It may give me a guide as to what price the 508 may be this time next year.

Do Pioneer release new models every year?

    Thanks

February 2007 official price list has that model at 3799!
Pioneer are on their 8th generation of plasma but do not necesarily release a new model every year no.
There was a price increase in the new 508 over the old model.
I have that particular screen at home and think it is stunning, 1080p or not!

Sky HD and PS3 going through it.

    Cheers,

Thanks, Looking to spend around €3500 mark.was tempted with the Panasonic 50pz70/50py70 but i thing panasonic are still one model away from perfection i.e with lack of 24 at 1080p and few other niggly things.

The Pioneer 507xd looks fab does any one have the 508 how does it look?

also are there any stores currently stocking it in Ireland?

Dermott Jewell was on the radio during the week , he is Chief Executive with Consumers' Association of Ireland and he was explaining that your Guarantee on goods is actually 2 Years , he was going int the fact that these extended warrantees are a rip off .
