It's becoming like most MA where someone gets a hold of it adds a couple of new drills, techniques or sets up a different organisation or federation & abrakedabra you have a new varitaion.

Here's a few of the most well known but there is more.
    • IMKF - International Krav Maga Federation run by Eyal Yanilov & started by Imi Litchtenfeld....known as Imi's System in the US due to lawsuits with Krav Maga US
    • Krav Maga US - Head Instructor Darren Levine the 2nd most highly decorated student of Imi but has broken away on his own now
    • Comando Krav Maga - started by Moni Aziak seems to me more grappling based due to the instructors background in Judo & Ju Jutsu....also sued by KM US over the use of the Krav Maga name....the Americans love their lawsuits!
    • WKMF - World Krav Maga Federation run by Italian Alessandro Del Pia & Frenchman Alain Formaggio
    • Israeli Krav Maga - Run by Haim Gidon, this is the group "Millionaire" became an instructor with first
    • Tactical Krav Maga - Who Gerry is affilated to now....there based in Australia

There is also some off shuts like KAPAP, Haganah, F.I.G.H.T & Hisardut

From what I've seen of them their all similar enough with the same base techniques with a few more added in for good measure.

Personally though from what I've seen of Commando KM I feel it gets away from one of KM's main principles i.e working defences off natural reactions with a some of the defences e.g front choke but the techniques are still effective if not as instive. Gerry's a big fan this system though.

Best of luck with the new course CKM.NI !!!!!

Thanks bro for the best wishes!

I agree with you that all in all in my opinion all the km's are exceedingly similar, i would disagree though saying that ckm gets away from natural reactions - the training we do for chokes is from what i have seen on the KM's techniques is nearly identital. One thing i have found and i am only being extremely picky is that KM uses slightly more smaller moves where ckm uses some bigger moves to get the job done.

Wether its ckm or km,northern ireland did not have any kind of class like these so its a great boost for the country to have an offical school in one.

Again i dont want to get caught up in the politics of ckm/km but imo both are great systems, its irrelevant to me which one came to northern ireland - i am just glad i have the choice for one of the systems.

    Thanks guys!

I see what you mean about the bigger/smaller movements.

I think I was just being picky too with my analaysis of the front choke technique as the it would be a a better way to describe them as bigger movements.

I'm delighted that there's more KM around.

Sorry for Necroing this thread but I found it on a search and felt I had to make a contribution.

No disrespect to CKM instructors or students but CKM is not Krav Maga. CKM was invented by a con artist called Moni Aizik, this has now been very well documented and he has even been knocked by the UK Advertising Standards Board. If anyone is still training or teaching CKM I would advise them to contact either the IKMF or KMG, both of which are recognised organisations and make the switch over. Moni Aizil has been proven to have fabricated his entire military career including involvement with Special Forces and has been proven not to even be a certified instructor in KM at any level.

Plenty of good people got sucked in by the CKM scam especially after they appeared on the Human Weapon program but it the creators of the show have even come out to say that they did no background check on him and chose him based on the claims on his website. Here's some more information (with plenty of interesting links) that CKM practitioners should check out. http://www.bullshido.net/forums/showthread.php?t=66810

    Cheers
