The backlight gone on my brothers 2 year old Inspiron 6000, ie screen is very dark and unreadable, dose this need a new screen? or is it a bulb? is it worth fixing?

If you think you can go through all that fairly easily then have a look on ebay for a Inspiron 6000 backlight and you could replace it yourself, also the option of just replacing the screen altogether but will cost more.
