xp drivers for Vaio VGN-AR51E

Had to remove Vista home premium on this laptop because a software application tht the client wanted was only available for XP.

Problem is I've literally been all day looking for XP drivers for the bloody thing and not getting much results.

No saticfaction from Vaio themselves and trying to track down the individual manufacturer parts is producing mixed results.

So far all that seems to be left are the sigmatel audio drivers and the built-in camera/card reader/other small things.

Surely someone here has had to put XP on a Vaio before and might know the score?

I've tried everything I can think of at this stage, and if anyone has a notion I'd greatly appreciate it before I go bald!

    thanks

A mod will move your post to Operating Systems > Windows

pop in a Knoppix 5.11 boot cd and see what it detects the hardware as

PITA is the way windows drivers look for strings to restrict themselves, but some are nice and generic and will run on other brands with the same chipset

    sorry yeah, wrong forum.

Still not having any luck. I think I've a knoppix live CD knocking around at home somewhere. Might give that a shot tomorrow.

From what I can gather, there are an awful lot of people having this same problem with XP on new Vaios.

Sony often use a different model number to this to look up their drivers too, I had this problem kept looking for the drivers using the VGN-xxxx only when I tried something like SP4XP or whatever the other model number was did I find the right drivers.

Had same problem with my Vaio SZ and eventually found what I was looking for on here

    ftp://ftp.vaio-link.com/pub/OS/XPDOWNGRADE/

It doesn't contain the exact model but here's betting that most if not all the hardware is identical driver-wise.
