I've heard reference a few times in the last week about clubs that have waived their joining fee.

Donabate and Turvey were referenced without corroboration as doing this.

I'm in the market for a bargain ;) Presumably this is a symptom of all the new clubs that have been opening

    anyone heard anything like this?

A few clubs I know don't have a joining fee. Bellewstown and Citywest to name but two.

citywest don't have a 'club' really though, you basically pay your green fees up front year on year, so don't think that counts? I was a member there for a while and it is much more like grange castle or hollystown than a proper club.

New courses are really suffering business wise/financially.

Donabate haven't although they have introduced an easier way to pay it

    How come?

Because private commercial golf in Ireland is unsustainable, except at the very top end of the market.

Why is it unsustainable. The cost of land, dropping member numbers. too many courses? A lot of the courses I play have excellent facilities (some of them brand new) and they certainly are not at the top end of the market. None of them as far as I am aware are unsustainable.

Getting back to Henry Ford's point why do you think courses are suffering financially.

    Just curious
