What new developments are there in Castlebar?

I know a Homebase has recently opened, this is great news as Woodies isn't great, what do you folks think of Homebase?

I'm just enquiring in the developments because I'm thinking of moving to Castlebar and looking for some good job opportunities

Well, i popped into Homebase this week, boring tbh. expecting some "just opened" fancy schmancy offers.......but nothing to be seen. same old same old. Hope their sales are good. Next, next door, handy for kids clothes, but a bit pricey too.

Good so far as they are bringing badly needed jobs, and keeps the $$ in mayo as fewer trips to Galway and Sligo needed for the old shopping fix.

Will be interesting to here what othet people think of it, any word on what other stores are coming?

I think Sligo is a nightmare, hence I want to get out of it!

Homebase and Next are rather small compared to the ones in Sligo,I spend alot of time in Homebase in Sligo and I can confirm there are alot of new offers coming to light.

Whats the IT sector like in Castlebar, would be intrested in a job in that and also any new developments of nice modern apartments or houses and whats rent like

    Sorry about all the questions

Nothing wrong with Mayo Mr W. You are a native and people never appreciate what they have when they have it. Different strokes for different folks and all that :)

He escaped and left me (little brother) trapped here.

All the famous writers come to westport to write their books. Because there's nothing here to distract them, except sheep, and maybe cows too.. castlebar is for shopping freaks. Ballina is (dare i say it) is for travellers. These are just steretypes, but trust me, you do not want to live amongst us.

Unless your a farmer, stay away from Mayo.

    He's a runaway.

btw, for the record, galway is an even crappier place to live! Sligo is the place to go!

Sure Mr H, you're from Bray, anything's better than that! Sure didn't you move to England after your time in the 'Bar ;)

Anyway, Galway has been the best place I've lived, but I'm currently really enjoying Dublin too. NEver lived in Sligo, was always jealous of their Burger King though!

Nowt wrong with living in Mayo. I've done the Dublin thing, as well as the Galway thing - meh, tbh.

I live in Mayo and so far it's alright. It's not Dublin that's for sure. I just wish the train links were better. The sooner the line from Sligo to Galway is rebuilt/reopened the better. That way I could commute the hell out of here and use Mayo as a cheap base.

People complain about the cost of living in Mayo but compared to the rest of the country it's not bad at all.

Groceries and things like that are cheaper overall than dublin, but transport, etc is so much more expensive/worse.

IT Jobs in Mayo - dont come here if your looking for one. We have not being given proper broadband yet, and if anywhere in the county has it, it's dodgy, and has outages. Hence, industry is turned away big time. Thats why we need a proper politician from here. Mayo has so much potential regarding IT, but companies are locating in high speed web hubs.

I'm from Mayo, I'm a member of this site, I can post here if I like. Someone's already infracted you, pity, I was going to. I wasn't trolling, I was offering my opinion which I'm perfectly entitled to do and I managed to do it without insulting anyone. Funny that...
