Back in the early 80s, ads started appearing saying things like 'Big Ed loves Mona'. Of course, nobody had a feckin clue what they were on about until the awful truth was revealed. Big Ed was some sort of cartoony character and he was a big fan of Mona yogurt. It was quite nice actually. It came in containers a bit like what the Muller yogurt comes in these days. I can't remember when they stopped making it though

Hah, our secondary school teacher was telling us a story that he was driving back from Galway and saw the sign that said Big Ed and a few weeks later Big Ed Loves and then after a while Big Ed Loves Mona. :) I hadn't seen it myself.

It was short for Monaghan Co-op, which produced this yoghurt. It tasted awful.

I absolutely loved Mona Yoghurts, as a child. They were creamy and thick - totally lush. It's a shame they disappeared. The nearest equivalent I've found are Lidl's creamy yoghurts by Milbona.

I'm pretty certain that the manufacturer for Lidl's own brand dairy products in Ireland is Town of Monaghan Co-op... check the country code on them and see if they're Irish.

    Mona Yogurts - nicest ever.

Check out this video for a Mona advert - from 0.53 onwards

God I remember those ads well, and waiting to see what it was all about. I can remember a Mona chocolate dessert, it was heavier than a yoghurt, kind of a blancmange affair, and it was delicious:D

There was a guy who worked there at the time whose nickname was Big Eddie (my grandmother used to have a dairy farm, knew him well and always got a Christmas card from him) I've always wondered if that ad campaign was an oblique reference to him.

I'm clearly far too old for this, but does anyone remember Ski yogurt?

I do - the logo was in blue? it was certainly sold up to 1987 when I started working in the local L+N supermarket.

I think it might have been on sale after L&N became Retro themselves.

The great thing about Mona yogurt was it was full fat - none of your diet 0.1% fat nonsense - that's why it tasted so yum.

I collected the tokens and got a "Big Ed loves Mona" Frisbee.
It was black, and the type was white. It resembled chalk on the blackboard.
