Anyone know the difference between dialing *99# and *99***1# for a GPRS connection?

I have two GPRS modems connecting to VF live (one is a phone, the other a USB GPRS modem), one will only work with *99# and the other with *99***1# ?

So they both work, I'd just be interested in why the different numbers!!

I think the 1 identifies the GPRS profile that is used.

it might depend on the phone. are you using AT+CGDCONT as well?

Yes your right, 1 is the external ID for the ISP account info on your phone, so when your computer "dials" *99***1# it will use the ISP account info you have defined on your phone.
You can have more than more ISP account info's defined on your phone.

Your modem can only dial *99#, so it doesnt have an option of having more than one ISP account infos' defined

Thanks for the info! Was just interested in why the two numbers. Spent hours yesterday trying to figure it out!

towel401 - yes, I am using AT+CGDCONT in the modem initialization string. More speciifcally, I'm using - AT+CGDCONT=,,"live.vodafone.com"<cr>

    Thanks!

No Hassle, it took me hours to figure out *99***1# number too.

But it makes life very easy if you want to use your phone as a modem on any PC /laptop that has bluetooth.
