I agreed to purchase a car recently and signed the papers and was given a reciept for the price agreed, I also gave a deposit. I got a phone call just before picking it up saying they must change the price as they didn't make money on the current deal. Are they entitled to do this or is there anything that I can do about this?

I doubt they're entitled to do this.

    Is it a garage?

It would seem that they agreed a deal. You were to get your car for €x. You even got a receipt.

Threaten the Consumers Association and Joe Duffy and then see if they feel the same about it.

Signature + deposit + receipt = bound contract

Once you have the papers signed, all amendments need to be given 30 days in writing. If you dont like it, you can simply pull out. Walk away if you can, but make sure you get all your money back. If they refuse, you are entitled to the original deal that was made.

If in doubt, consult a solicitor. OR ring 1890 223030. Consumer Ombudsman.

I don't think the Ombudsman can deal with this. The number given is for the Ombudsman http://ombudsman.gov.ie/en/ "The Ombudsman's staff examine complaints about the administrative actions of Government Departments, the Health Service Executive, local authorities and An Post."

antodeco, do you mean the national consumer agency http://www.consumerconnect.ie/eng/
    1890 432432?

OP as far as I know it is a contract and they can't do it
