Fifa 08 online issues

Hi All

This thread may have already been created by someone else so apologies if it has!

I have recently bought the PS3 with Fifa 08 included in the deal.

Can someone please tell me how I can have a good old fashioned game against one other person online? i.e. I control one team and the other guy controls the other. I can't seem to get this going for me....

I did stumble across an online game where I was among about 10 other guys, and was controlling one player. However I would prefer a simple 1 on 1 game instead....

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

just go to quick ranked or unranked game option in the online games mode menu, thats the fastest way

I have tried that but it never works - says something like: "This session has been timed out" or something of that order....

sounds like the other players are leaving before you get to the room. is your connection slow or anything? usually takes about 2 seconds for the room to load up. any longer than that and it might be your problem.
do you go through a whole host of teams before you pick the one you want? that can annoy the hell outa people and they just leave (i would anyway). there should be an option somewhere to default to your favourite team to speed up the process.

i think theres some form of issue with fifa 08 in terms of normal 1v1 games

i have no problems at all, but 2 blokes i know have awful trouble getting into matches

this has started to work for me (most of the time!). you just have to persevere with it..... sometimes the other person will accept having a match and sometimes they won't.... In addition, one online match I had yesterday evening was cancelled due to a broken connection....

is it possible to send msgs to the person you are playing against?

is there some way of arranging to play a friend online in a dedicated room? - it seems to me that it is pure random who you end up playing against....

you cant send messages on the ps3 while playing a game, which is retarded

and yes you can pick a room and tell your mate youll meet him in it via text message or a psn message if you log out of the game. also what ive found handy is that you can set up your own league, make it private, and give your mates the name and password to join, then you can just pop into the league whenver youre on, see if your mates are online, and invite them to a league match

was having fierce problems trying to organise a game against on of my friends last night. will try what you said h3lx with the game room!

i added the 2 guys as above but it was so longwinded to try and organise a game/send messages to each other via the ps3 ive just given up. its ridiculous, why couldnt they have had in game messaging like the previous fifas on ps2. maybe one day we'll get lucky and a quick ranked game will pair us

is it possible to switch between playing a game and reading messages? was playing fifa 08 last nite and was getting pop up notices saying that i had received new msgs. i had to quit the game to read the messages - is there any way to get around this?

Nope. But we all live in hope of a decent firmware update that will solve this problem.
