Based on actual events, a plot to assassinate Hitler is unfurled during the height of WWII

    IMDB
    Trailer

This is Tom Cruise's movie version of the July bomb plot of 1944 to kill Adolf Hitler.

I never knew Col. Claus von Stauffenberg was American! Which, of course, he wasn't. And this is the one thing that stuck out at me when watching this trailer is the fact that Tom Cruise seems to play the whole thing with his own accent.

Am I the only one that thinks this is terrible?

After his awful "Oirish" accent in Far & Away he probably thought it was better not to risk a German accent and stick to his own.

Never did Sean Connery any harm.

To be entirely fair, it's a film; a dramatisation. Even if he did put on a German accent, and still shot it in English, it doesn't stand to reason that the characters would be speaking in English at all.

So stick on your belief suspenders, and just enjoy the film for what it is, ya?

Will not go near this film. Hate watching these type of films (Americans etc playing as Germans/Russians). Plus it's got Tom Cruise in it anyways, that should put nearly everyone off.

I don't understand why it irks people. If it was going to be really genuine, it would be shot in German with English subs. I'd far rather they spoke in their normal accents then try and produce false ones.

That aside, the movie looks fantastic. As a major ww2 history buff, it'll without a doubt be my most anticipated movie of the year. Though it's hard to tell much from the trailer, judging from just that alone it looks 100% faithful to the truthful turn of events without having to resort to improvised dramatics.

Pfft, you could've at least said 'ja'

It must be just me. It's why I loved Downfall so much, that it was shot solely in german with english subtitles. Worked more to their advantage.

But you do have a point, it might be good for all I know, I'm just not a big fan of Tom Cruise lately.
