Have never used them myself, but know of some folk who've bought MP3 players from them and had no issues. Course thats not in anyway definitive.

I haven't used them, but I would recommend kea photo on ebay. I ordered a lens there on wednesday night and it's sitting at home waiting for me to get home from work. It'll be a long afternoon!!!

    cheers,

Kea would always be the very first place I look to buy anything for the camera. Prices are just great and 100% reliable.

Without saying too much about the "import fella", you should be okay... ;)

technikdirekt are great too. i've used them many times without any problems

thanks for the responses, much appriciate them.

@shrapnel222, how did the "pick-up service" work out? did you organise yourself or get technikdirekt to do it for you - I always feel uncomfortable about this type of delivery (for no real reason), it doesn't sound stright forward?

    thks

I have used Technikdiret too and found them very efficient. I think the delivery was by DHL. I didn't arrange it though.

Certainly Kea seem to offer a great service.

However I buy nearly everything in Germany, generally for around the same prices as Kea when you factor in the postage from HK. You get EU goods, no vat or customs or warranty problems.

Tecknik Direkt are grand but generally more expensive. For instance you can get this lens from a number of German outlets for € 440-450.

this seems strange but in fact they deliver by DHL as stated. I think this just means that DHL come and pick it up from them etc... i would say it's down to bad translation

I too almost exclusively buy in Germany and have only good things to say about the service.

If on ebay, the majority of German traders seem to have 100% positive feedback and nikon-4u are great

Just a slight word of caution regarding purchasing off kea at the moment.. I ordered lens off kea bout a month ago and still havent got it due to getting caught by the import fella mentioned above so you can be unlucky! Especially in the run up to xmas they will be checking more and more packages.. So it doesnt always work..

I bought my camera from technikdirekt, a year ago, based mainly on price and then that they were in the EU. They needed an emailed scan of papers (think it was passport) to prove identity, but once that was in place the transaction went smoothly and delivery was quick.

Some of the German shops now accept paypal, once you have a verified card theres no need for any documents to be sent.

Thanks for all the responses ... the German sites certainly give one food for thought! now, if only we can get them to speak english :D, seriously though when you take in postage etc they appear to be on par if not better then kea ...

    thanks again

I've no problem in helping with german or contacting someone for you, I do it most weeks for someone or other. The important thing to sus out is availability of an item.

I've never used them for camera equipment but I have for speakers and hi-fi equipment. I have always been happy with there service and delivery times.

thanks covey, appreciate the offer (my missus is fluent:)), I just wasn't aware of the German online stores, might be an idea to create a stickly with the best European online stores :D

It's good to see a number of the German sites do English versions, they are certainly taking on the kea's and with little or no customs issues are the most obvious choice ...

BTW: I can't believe this little island of ours is sooo expensive (well I can, but it's mad), the Dublin stores are pricing the lens above (70-300 IS) @ €669 - that's easliy €170 more then those advertised in the links above - what ever happened to the Canon European wide price levelling ...

I'll be keeping my euro's in europe (but not our lovely little rip off island, it's a shame!)

    thks agian

It is a shame that they have the attitude of wanting to get people in the door once and bend them over instead of forming relationships with customers that prompts repeat business. It would be scary for shops to realize how much business they could have if the adjusted their prices. :)

As has been said before, it's a Canon problem. Look at German sites for Nikon and there is a small difference, but nothing like the gap for Canon.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who tests and looks in Ireland and buys abroad. Simply bad management from the top down.

And following Leinstermans contact last year, the couldn't give a damn.

I also find I get conflicting messages from some shops in Dublin.

I went in about a particular lens into one city centre store, and two separate days, was quoted two different prices of nearly €300 of a difference for the exact same lens - I think as it was five mins to closing, the second day, they just wanted me out of the shop.

Another shop I saw a lens on their website, rang up about it, and was quoted nearly €200 more than on their own website, even though I had told them I had see it at such a price on the phone - price on web has not changed since  - I double-checked after ringing.

Ive bought lots of stuff from Technikdireckt , 3 canon L lenses , tripods , filters , and a sigma 70 -300 , not one problem.

I like the prices on Kea , but tax dodging is tax dodging and when you have your own little business you cant afford to have the taxman sniffing around , so no way is that an option for me.
