Sorry if there are specific posts dealing with these topics - I had a quick search and couldn't find anything specific.

    1. PS3 or XBox 360? JUST JOKING - I see this question annoys everyone hugely :D

    2. Is it possible to download whole games onto the HD for play instead of using the disk or how does it work? What are the benefits of doing this.

    3. If I think I am the worlds greatest PES player and want to network against other people what do I do? (Been out of game console loop for years - only played PES)

    4. Maybe not the right question for this forum but what is the difference between blu ray vs dvd? Is it the whole 1080 thing? Is that it? Do we think blu ray disks will take off?

    5. Where/how do I update the software on my PES3, are there specific sites or does it just get done when you insert new games?

    6. I think Resistance plays better then COD 4 - anyone agree with me?

    2. There are specific downloadable games - you turn on the console, select Playstation Network from the menu, then browse through what is available. These are different games to what are on shop shelves - generally smaller and much cheaper, but that doesn't mean they're any less fun because some of the best games on the console are downloadable.

    3. Just turn the game on and pick 'play online' - this is assuming you already have a net connection with your PS3 connected to it either by ethernet or wireless.

    4. That's the only difference. Much higher picture quality in high definition. It will probably catch on because it's pretty much impossible to buy SDTVs anymore.

    5. It's all automatic when you play the game.

    6. Definitely not.

Reply to no 4. ,Blu ray discs hold up to 50GB . Dvd is up 8.5GB

Pop into a shop that has blu-ray on display ,looks amazing. The discs are starting to cost less and less.

Some games are available to download from the PSN. These are back catalogue games from PS1 and some smaller independent games. Tekken 5 and Warhawk are also available to download. The only benefits I can think of to download PS3 games is you'd have faster load times from the hard drive rather than the blu-ray drive. Unreal Tournament 3 when released for PS3 will also have a partial install option, This will let you install certain files to the PS3's hard drive to provide faster loading times too.

I only got my PS3 last thursday got stuck into COD4, instantly hooked, best game I've played in years, on Saturday after 2 late nights and most of the afternoon at COD4 I stuvk on resistance to have a look at it, lasted about 10 mins before I got bored and went back to COD4, graphics, sound & gameplay not a patch on COD. If I had played resistance first I'm sure I'd have loved it, but it just doesn't come close.

If I want to play online and my PS3 is hooked up and working fine on the internet do I need to set an account up anywhere or is it like people floating around in cyber space waiting to be connected with others?

    360

no, only for games downloaded from the playstation store so far as i know. tho most games will install files to the hard drive because of poor bluray read speeds, thus reducing load times
    3. If I think I am the worlds greatest PES player and want to network against other people what do I do? (Been out of game console loop for years - only played PES)

you do nothing if its pes 08, because it pretty much just doesnt work online
    4. Maybe not the right question for this forum but what is the difference between blu ray vs dvd? Is it the whole 1080 thing? Is that it? Do we think blu ray disks will take off?

bluray has higher capacity but lower read speeds iirc, but the 2 are much of a muchness. i honestly dont know which one will win the battle for the next standard, tbh i also dont care

    5. Where/how do I update the software on my PES3, are there specific sites or does it just get done when you insert new games?

from the system update button on the dashboard

    6. I think Resistance plays better then COD 4 - anyone agree with me?

resistance is awful, cod is brilliant

    so no

What is the data rate of Hd/dvd ,it's smaller than blu-ray.

The plate of the HD/DVD is smaller than that of the blu-ray ,so the hd/dvd is always struggling to meet the same demands blu-ray makes.

    Triple Hd/dvd = 45GB ,3 x 15GB . Blu ray = 2 x 25GB ,blu ray spins slower and has more imformation.

triple layer dvds have 17gb per layer capacity as opposed to single and double which have 15gb per layer

read speed for bluray is 1x at 36 Mbs or 2x at 72 Mbs

So the xbox 360 plays hd-dvd's at 72mb ,not bad.
