    Hi
I'm thinking of visiting Riga for a weekend break in December. Will it be very cold there in December? Am I mad visiting this time of year?
Can anyone recommend any good hotels 4*+?
    Thanks
    Jack :D

I was there in October one year and it was lovely but cold. At the moment most of Eastern Europe is cold. The town is divided into old and new as a lot of these cities are. There are some lovely street markets and a great "tea" house located in the shopping area - can't remember exactly but from the hotel, you cross over the bridge and take a right at the end of it, heading up into the town. Loads of side streets and great pubs. Mind you, the pub we went into was excellent but we noticed in this pub, as we did in others, POLES (as in the steel ones) on the counter, which I presume were for late night entertainment!! Common enough in Eastern Europe, from what I gather! Nonetheless, there were some lovely pubs/restaurants in the old town!

I bought some amber which is SO cheap. Stayed in the Radisson - not overly expensive but very comfortable and food good. Bring hat and gloves cause it is a DRY cold not like our damp weather here. Went to Austria for Christmad last year and would also highly recommend. Anywhere but HERE and the madness that is CHRISTMAS in IRELAND.Enjoy

Would highly recommend Bergs Hotel, about 5 min walk from Old Town. We went in December last and were expecting snow, but all we got was rain. The place would have looked amazing with snow.

http://www.hotelbergs.com/ - if you do stay there ask for room high up (there is a niteclub next doo that can get a bit noisey.
