PS3 slow down following downloads

    What had been an excellent machine appears to be on a downhill slope at the mo -

    I downloaded the latest system update on Saturday night, then went online to play cod4 for a while. Everything working fine. Sunday morning, I downloaded Warhawk, and the Aliens v Predator 2 trailer - all ok. I played warhawk for an hour and then put the system in standby.

    Now when I went back to it, the gremlins had done their best as the system was freezing no matter what application I tried to use. If I tried to get into COD4, I'd get a title screen "COD4 Modern Weapons" which would freeze on screen. I then had to use the PS button to quit game (which took its time as well) and then go back into COD after another pause. The other menus on the crossbar menus are all the same. No matter what I try, it seems that the system is sticking. I can't get online either now and it appears that my router is also messed up as when I tried it on my pc, it refuses to recognise a DSL signal, even though it was working perfectly up to Sunday lunchtime.

    Any ideas what caused the problem? The system update, the downloads, the router?????? I'm p!ssed off cause its a great system and the freezing is really driving me nuts.

    Hey Dave, Sounds like you might have a couple of problems there.
    I had no issues like this after the latest update although various people have had different issues.
    I would recommend fixing your PC/router problem first though as without the web you will be dead(er) in the water...
    Could it have been a temporary issue with your broadband in the area on Sunday as i know my dad had issues with Eircom on Sunday. Especially due to all the nasty weather of late

    Can't get the modem working no matter what I try. The freezing of the system is also bugging me so much that I walked away from the system yesterday and haven't gone back to it since. Thats the most time I've been way from the ps3 since I bought it. Back to my original queries, did the latest sytem update screw up my ps3 or did downloading warhawk do it?

    Sony are releasing another Firmware revision (v2.01) shortly to fix some stability problems with the last one. I've also read turning off that crappy Information Board reader can stop freezes. Maybe give it a go.
