    Hi,
OK, so which one does everyone think is better?

When I got Mario 64, i thought it was the best game since sliced bread! It also had the new analogue controls, as well as introducing all those new moves, such as the power jump, wall kicks, ass drop, dive, backflip etc etc.

Mario Galazy has all these moves too, except the dive is replaced with the spin. It also has a new controller method, as well as a totally new perspective, ie the upside downey, twirly, flyin thru space kinda thing.

Im sure anyone who has galaxy has played mario 64, so....

Which one is best? (bearing in mind, this is effectively a "What is the greatest nintendo game of all time" competition! ;) )

Ask me in a week or two when I've seen all the Galaxies in SMG. :)

SMG is the better game, minute for minute it's more fun than 64. But it will be difficult for any game to have the same impact as 64 did, groundbreaking stuff in its day.

Oh and Zelda: OOT is the best Nintendo game off all time. ;)

Link to the Past is better than OoT imo

Can't really say whether Mario 64 or Galaxy is the better game. Playing galaxy reminded me of the unbridled joy of playing Mario 64 back when it was released. I think the answer to that question will only be found in a few years to come. What is so great about Mario 64 is that despite it's age it's every bit as fresh and wonderful as when it was released at the launch of the N64. Many games like Goldeneye are a complete mess by todays standards but Mario 64 is still great and as a 3D platform game, hadn't been matched until Mario Galaxy came out. I'm going to have to go for Mario 64 at the moment. It just seems a lot more epic and a much bigger adventure than Galaxy. Still I'm nowhere near the end of galaxy yet.

I missed out on Mario 64 when it first came around (was too broke to own a N64:()
I played a rom of it some time later, and found it fairly enjoyable, but by that stage it had lost all of the initial wow factor, and ended up being more of a 8/10 game for me than the 10/10 that most people would give it.

Mario Galaxy is just plain awesomeness. I'm 34 stars into it now and it's looking like it'll go straight into my top 10 games of all time, possibly even to the number 1 spot!

Hard one to answer. Never played Mario 64 on release and only got around to it on the DS. A fantastic game no doubt, but Galaxy irons out many of the flaws - most notably some of the more irritating collecting missions, and Galaxy is far fairer overall. Without nostalgia-tinted glasses, Galaxy is the better game, but really it just builds on the foundations of it's little brother, like all good sequels do. It's the next step up in the franchise. At the time, Mario 64 was the best gaming had to offer. Now Mario Galaxy is.

of course that would the SMG!:Di think they actually said something like this at the game basic concept conference...

    somebody obviously not from italy:
''eh?new mario eh?you all know what to do!!we will conquer the world again when the game is launched!yes!again!end of talk!everyone give me a new idea about the new mario tomorrow.ah,yes, there is a number of N64 with mario 64 under my table and you can download the ROM from me website from now on,just dont forget to finish the game at least once before you come to work tomorrow...

and thus,SMG came out better than the old 64 version...based on the thousand times cursing on mario64 from its workers...

ahye...forgive me for this bad joke come out nowhere in my brain...:o

Its super mario galaxy for me without question. its just brilliant and Mario 64 just cant compete. So nintendo are still producing the mario magic and thats all that matters

ps pokemon snap is the best game ever

Get out of it. Neglected oldie, yes. Best game ever, far from it.

If you want to play Mario 64 you really needed to have played it on the N64. A keyboard or joypad won't do the game justice like the N64 game pad does. Also I think the DS version is vastly inferior to the original. The controls are awkward and the new stars nearly ruin the game since they are a bugger to get (not to mention a nasty bug that won't let you get every star).

I usually end up playing Mario 64 once a year (like Super Metroid) and it's one of the very few games I'd gladly play again (it would be one of my desert island games). Can't be sure if I'd say that about Galaxy just yet

Wow I can't believe Galaxy is running away with this. Mario 64 was an amazing title, My jaw literally dropped at the 3d world and the graphics when I first played it. Maybe the majority of people voting for galaxy didnt play 64, because 64 was far more impressive at the time.

so far.... im gonna say mario 64. im absolutely loving galaxy, and the mere mention of it here has made me turn my wii on without even meaning to...
but, maybe its rose tinted nostalgia, but galaxy will have to REALLY prove itself to best 64. not that it's in any way poor by any means, and the fact that it is even in consideration with mario 64 is great, but it's not quite as good, is it.
maybe when im finished galaxy :)

    Galaxy...

And yes I did play Mario 64 when it was first released! Finished it within a few days, although some of the stars (red coins, how I hate thee!) took me ages to get! And what did ya get for getting 120 stars? A reward that was essentially pointless at that stage :(

I loved Mario 64, but I have to admit, I'm liking Galaxy a lot more so far! I grinned like crazy at
catching the rabbits at the start of Galaxy!
as it was such a blatant nod back to Mario64! :D

Only thing with Galaxy was I wanted to be able to use the Wii remote to pull and stretch and deform the Super Mario Galaxy logo :D

did anyone have trouble with the new controls on galaxy? took me all of like 5 seconds to get all the moves down, bar the spin. they're pretty much identical to the Mario64 ones, except i keep wanting to do the dive in galaxy! and also that little kick thing he does.

also, do you think the 2 player option in galaxy is a bonus, or a detraction?
