iPod Touch Frozen

Connected my ipod touch to my PC earlier this evening and iTunes told me that a new software version was available (1.1.2 I think), I went ahead and accepted it but then an error message came up saying my iPod will need to be restored so I went ahead and then it wouldn't restore and gave some other error code. If I try to connect it now it says its in recovery mode and will need to be restored but doesn't, the screen shows the apple logo and then the updating icon but the screen goes blank and it tries again but fails, it won't even turn on for me, it just shows the iTunes icon and a USB cable on the screen. Holding the sleep button for 10 secs doesn't do anything.
I've read on other forums the same problem but haven't seen a solution yet.
Is it broken? Will I need to send it for repair? Who will I contact and send it to? I bought it in New York 2 weeks ago, will that affect my Warranty?

Have you registered it online? If you have, ring the apple shop in Cork, they ill give you the support desk number in England and you'll be put through to Bangalore in India!

I've rang them before when i had a problem with the classic ipod, if they can't fix it, they send a DHL or UPS to pick it up. great service!

    Thanks for your reply nulabert.

I saw a post on the Apple discussion forum from people with the same problem as me as the recent software update, the thread is here. One of the posters replied with this
Actually yes there is a way, you need to download and install a driver called 'Apple Recovery iBoot Driver'. Ths driver is the driver which is meant to be installed with iTunes as default although if you've been un-installing and re-installing iTunes several times, then the file can get lost in different directories, and therefore your PC nor iTunes can access the file. Search your computer for it, if you find it, restore it to it's rightful place in the iTunes directory, if you can't find it, you can try googling 'Apple Recovery (iBoot) USB Driver'.

Hope you resolve your problem soon. This device is immense.

    R-Fly

I'm hoping that will solve my problem.

Press and hold the Power + Hold Button for about 20 seconds, then connect to the computer and make sure it has power. Then try upgrade it again via iTunes.

I don't mean to be smart but I've tried that I don't know how many times since it happened.

Doing that method normally solves a lot of problems

Reset it, then put to disk mode and use dd linux/unix/OS-X command to write older firmware, if You have any backup

I rang Apple Support and they think its a software issue on the ipod. I'm sending it off to them on Monday. I'll probably get back a new ipod touch.

i know this is slightly off topic but im hoping someone here will be able to help!
parents are going to new york in few days and i asked them to pick me up an itouch while theyre over there.
on apple.com its $399 and on apple.ie its €399 so with exchange rate its a huge saving.
i was wondering if i purchased it in new york, registered it online and a few months down the line something happened will i get technical support from ireland or will i have to ring the states and if something seriously goes wrong would i have to send it back there aswell.
thanks in advance for any help:)

No Apple support is worldwide. I know this because my iPod broke while i was in Oz and they replaced with a refurbished one over there for free. All I had to do was post it to them in OZ (they provided me with the shipping tag/details), and they posted one back to me. Also dont forget you have to add sales tax to that $399, you do still save a fair bit but dont forget about that.

I bought my iPod Touch in New York. It broke as I stated above. Rang the Irish Apple Support and they arranged for UPS to collect it from me. It'll be repaired/replaced in 6/7 working days. All they asked for was the serial no. not even a copy of the receipt.

Thanks for the tip! think ill go for it so if the support is good.

Had forgotten about the american price not having tax inc. checked up online and from what i can see the tax rate in nyc is 8.375% which would mean an extra $32 or so - still saving over €100:D

my friend got one and they seem pretty impressive although i hope the problems with op wont be a trend

Hopefully you won't have the same problem. Its a really cool ipod. If you get a wireless signal the internet and youtube access is deadly. I got the 8GB one and it cost me $324(ish). Get your parents to go to the Fifth Avenue store. Its open 24/7. Its incredible. Loads of Apple products to play freely with and its always packed. Pics here

i bought my ipod classic and the other halves ipod nano in the apple store in NYC on 5th ave.
    they were listed at $249 and $199 = $448
with tax on top of that it was $485 exactly so your tax calculation is correct :D

the tax was didderent rates on different stuff while i was there and there was no tax on clothes!
