Advice basic Laptop (Is PC world the place to go?)

OK, so I have an inspiron 6000, bought it late 2004. It's good but heavy and bulky and no longer has any battery life left on it (well not worthy of being called a portable laptop!! - about 45mins).

I'm planning on keeping it in my bedroom as a PC thing so now need a new laptop that's portable and lightweight.

Budget= less then 1000. Good Battery Life. Light weight. Small screen. Wireless. Memory etc not terribly important as my inspiron is v good.

I looked at an Advent 9112 in Pc World, not bad.

Any suggestions, and is PC world okay to buy from. Thanks! :)

Am a bit weary of buying from Dell as the battery probs I experienced with my current ones put me off. Plus are any of the Dells lightweight? Thanks for the reply!

As I said in the other thread regarding batteries. The only problem is from people leaving the battery in while on AC power when the battery is already full. It is not a Dell specific problem.

OK, point taken about the batteries then. That aside, are any of the dells light in weight? I know the Inspiron is pretty heavy and definately not something that can be put into my school bag without me collapsing to the ground with the weight*

    *slight exaggeration ;)

Definitely stay away from PC World and this is coming from someone who may be dropping a CV in to them soon (Desperate for a job and selling my soul seems like the only answer). Dell do a 14" vostro that is fairly small and light. They also have the xps m1330 which is even smaller and lighter. The xps is a bit more expensive though.

    This xps
is at the uppermost of your budget and to be honest the spec isn't great. It is really small and light though. You should upgrade the battery to a 6 cell.

This vostro 1400 is a bit bigger but it has a much better spec than the xps and it won't break your back. It's works out at about €900.

I'd go the vostro myself. Better spec and it'll still be pretty light.
