To Crye or not to Crye!?

So I'm about to order some BDUs. I've always wanted to get woodland, but after a bit of searching, and that thread about ebaybanned, I've been introduced to the loveliness that is multicam! :D

Now here comes the dilemma. Do I go for the specatcular Crye Precision combat shirt, combat pants, and range vest? Including elbow/knee pads and spend the guts of €400? Then another €100 I'd say to stock up on Molle accessories. Which I have the money to do. Perfectly formed, lots of pockets, plenty of maneuverability and long lasting quality.

Or do I spend a fraction of the cost and get this, this, and this.

I want the tighter fitting combat shirt, which is why that's in there as well. Does anyone have any experience with these three products? I know the photos could be wrong, but it certainly looks like the vest is a different shade than the rest.

Am I stupid to be heavily leaning towards the Crye gear? Though then I have to consider can I find matching molle pouches? Ah so many decisions! Help!

I have a lot of friends in canada who airsoft and many of them have bought the official Crye stuff and found it no better than many of the clones. In fact some of them found a place that make it out of the Crye copy material to a similar design as the offical stuff but with more reinforcement on the areas where the official stuff fails. I'll give them a shout and get the address of the place for you.

I'd love some of the offical Crye stuff but you could get six sets of the copy stuff for the price of the official. It's simple economics. Get two cheap sets, from what I hear they don't fail or rip any quicker than the official stuff so when it does you'll still have a spare set and change for an entire loadout.

Sounds like an excellent idea. If you could get me those sites it would be great. I'm not too keen on the baggy jackets that most places do. The Crye combat shirts are the only ones like them that I can find. Same with the ranger vest.

It doesn't have to be multicam either, woodland is perfectly acceptable. I was thinking though that the clones would be fine, leaving enough for a G36 off shiva (two even :P) or that m14 off Derek. Still, I've always been one to want the best tools/gear for whatever it is I'm doing. Don't like going cheap, as I tend to regret it soon after.

Why not go cheap? Armies recieve their equipment from the cheapest bidder, why can't you!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,451 ✭✭✭thehomeofDob

Depends on how you mean cheap. Cheap as in tacky = no. Cheap as in inexpensive = yes. :) I'm not out to waste money, but if putting money into something means better quality, then I'll gladly pay. I was all ready to shell out €30 on a set of ehobby's finest, till I read they were quite tacky. The stuff from ebaybanned would probably do me, if the vest definately matches the other items. I'm sending your man off an email now to check.

I really just wanted to see was there a noticable difference with the Crye products, enough to make it worth the extra dosh spent.

Well, basically, from what I have been told, you're better off with the clone stuff. Better value for money.

If you can get me a link to the stuff from canada, that would be great.

Wow that CRYE gear is impressive never seen it before. Well except maybe in Ghost Recon Adv Warfighter ;)

The armour vest is seriously cool Law Enforcement Military Only :(

I think they look ridiculously great! If I had money to blow, I'd pick up the entire line!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,984 ✭✭✭NakedDex

The material looks good but if I could find the same cut of pants in black I'd snap them up. It's the actual shape and cut I'm impressed by. As well as those nice elbow/knee pads

Tell me about, half a bottle of Havana and I've blown the guts of 200 euro
tonight on a full multicam loadout. Sure it had to be done! :)

Just know I'll be regretting it after customs get their mitts on me.

got the clone bdu's from ebaybanned myself and the combat shirt from rsov, the shirt on rsov is a little big on me, but it's good quality, the bdu's are pretty damn good too, appearance wise, i've stood next to a guy wearing a full genuine crye loadout and couldn't see any difference in the colour of the material, quality of the material im not too sure, didnt start feeling him up to check ;) but the quality of the clone stuff is grand, reinforced around the knees/arms too and has space for knee/elbow pads to be inserted, the cut of the trousers is great too, i wear them at home if im doing any diy or anything like that

I'll probably go with the clones myself now that I really think about it. As soon as I hear back from your man about the colour differences on his site, between the vest and the bdu's.

I was at this skrim with Keith and I must admit, his "copy" multicam was absoloutly identical to the "genuine" stuff.

If there's that many of you interested in a full multi-cam loadout, why not get together for a bulk order?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 206 ✭✭IronWolf

You won't be able to buy the Crye Precision stuff unless you're willing to fork out around 4 figures on ebay. Crye have not sold to civvies through their site for a number of years now.

I would be interested in a bulk buy

    What's the sizing like?
The large jacket on the uniform set is a 50'' chest. What's going on there?

Couple of other suppliers listed on Arnies:
http://www.onpatrol.co.uk These stock the 'Propper' range.

Bout to order a full kit. Two MOLLE double mag holders, anyone know if they'll hold a Steyr mag? I have a feeling they will. All in all it's coming to €216. Can't get the combat shirt as they don't have it in, still, a massive savings over Crye. Think it's worth asking for a discount, or something free thrown in?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,330 ✭✭✭Gran Hermano

Drop Paul an email after you've ordered and ask him if he'll throw in
the multicam shirt when he gets stock in. When I ordered last night they'd
only 3 left so am not surprised none left today - I ordered a larger size
than normal but am planning on wearing an underarmour top underneath
    to keep warm this winter.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,451 ✭✭✭thehomeofDob

Ah I did it! Clicked the button! €216 euro! Got everything though. Can't wait.

Talking to Paul there on MSN, he's saying he's got real Multicam material for the new combat shirts and they'll be out in December.

Had to go to page 7 to find this thread ;) but it seemed more appropriate than opening a new one.

I spotted this offer tonight on ebaybanned

Crye style Combat shirt and pants offer with the integrated knee and elbow pads.

    http://ebaybanned.com/product_info.php?cPath=34&products_id=927

I know this site has spammed boards members before. I also know that a good few members have had a good experience buying from this site myself included. I imagine there would be some interest in this product.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,414 ✭✭✭kdouglas

    oooohh... me likey :)

i'd mainly be buying it for the knee pads and the fact that they fit the trousers so well

    Multicam against various backgrounds.

Whatever about it's effectiveness or durability against the clones of multicam, the Crye official stuff has one of the best cuts I've seen. Most clone stuff seems to be of their "Field" range but the "Combat" range is epic. Those kneepads are made especially for those trousers and it shows. They also look seriously comfortable.
There's a similar integrated/fitted pad for the elbow on the combat series jacket
