Its the boat video linked in my sig also \/

That shot was made at 30 yards from a large navy boat, a destroyer or something, hardly moving, so not the amazing shot the lads are on about, but I wouldn't be one to complain, even less the pirates with holes in their heads.

garrr, I've been slotted with a baarrrrett sniparrrrrr rifle.

Yes, but the targets were on a raft on the end of a towline, which was moving around. The ship was also moving. All three targets had to be hit simultaneously, with no chance of hitting the hostage. It was dusk (not fully dark) which for most people is even worse than night because your eyes are changing over. The wind was getting up, the sea was getting choppy, and the pirates were getting more animated. The snipers were eyes-on all day at that point. Range was the least of their problems.

It's a sad story all round.

jeez, you'd swear you were on the boat with them man. :D

those pesky Pirates will always remember this as the day they, almost caught Captain Richard Phillips...

Not strictly airsoft (yet), but interesting nonetheless.

'Soon soldiers will have 3 tiny choppers in their pocket'

(The Register's particular brand of irreverence, punning and juvenile humour is an acquired taste. We should get Ms Bee to be a guest Moderatrix here for a while. That'll put manners on you all.)

PS: one suspects that Moggser was being sarcastic.

A .50 caliber bmg lump of metal passing through the brain at high velocity would tend to affect ones long term memory I'd imagine. :D

moving targets at 30 yards with a high calibred rifle is not something a special forces sniper would find difficult, nor would time of day be an issue especially when using IR thermal scopes, they were moving in the same direction as the raft thus eliminating horizontal movement and they just timed to take the shot between waves, that shot could have been made at quite a greater range if it had to be, the scale of their awesomeness was slightly exaggerated over the internet, its ridiculous to see loads of americans posting comments saying how that was the best shot snipers ever took etc:D, however its a pitty those french commandos made a piss up, just shows how things dont always go by the book eh:(

I think we can take both of those things as a given :)

The ship wouldnt really have been moving at all. only the target boat. the ship will resist the waves simply because of its size. Theres no question the shot was hugely over rated in my opinion.
In 2003 a british army sniper successfully pulled off a shot from nearly 2 miles away in Iraq during a firefight where the sniper had to adjust for 40ft of windage combined with the drop off of the round over such distance. the target was hit in the chest with a cold barrel. Now thats what you call a shot. :)

Didn't the British guy miss the first couple of times though...?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,175 ✭✭✭✭Captain Chaos

I believe it was actually a Canadian sniper team that pulled that shot off. About 2,400+ metres I think.

hostage died when they tried to storm a yacht:(

Oh God, there's a new Dan Brown book on the way.

I think I'm going to live in an igloo for the next four years. One the moon. And cram rocks in my ears.

And then I'm going to go smash Dan Brown's keyboard.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,984 ✭✭✭NakedDex

Here's a better idea: let's smash Dan Brown and bury him in an igloo in the moon. For the sake of literature, the English language and everyone who actually appreciates the difference between a good story and a marketable story.

    Parachuting super-pope.

    Good god.

The only person on earth who I despise more is Pat Kenny. And Pat Kenny makes me want to kill myself.
