Can anyone confirm how bad this is on the current (3rd generation) models? I've heard it's lower than ever. Gopod used to be great for fixing it but it isn't compatible with any of the new ipods and looks like it's not being updated anymore.

Well i've a jailbroken Ipod Touch and i've fixed the volume level so that it's the same as America. Before it was fixed it was at .829 with 1 being the highest. I'd assume the Nano would be the same at .829 but I could be wrong.

the volume cap doesn't worry me in the slightest.

using a decent set of headphones i never turn my ipod (80gig 5th gen) past 40% volume.

it also prolongs my battery and my hearing too.

didn't know they were making this cap worse. blame them french people, it's them who started this

Looks like I'll probably have to order one from the states. The cap isn't so bad for recent albums but for older-not-compressed-to-s**t music it renders the ipod pretty much useless.

Of all the stupid f**king laws...
