Do you know what a tutu is? (poll)

Here's the story. A friend of mine made a reference to a tutu in a text the other day. Me, not having a scooby what one was, enquired. He explained, claiming it was common knowledge and that I ought to know. I argued that it wasn't and that many like-minded people wouldn't know either.

So without googling it, do you know what a tutu is?

You'd watch it even if you didn't have a daughter, right?

Yeah, it's that frilly dress thing ballerinas wear

I'm with you Milktrolley, when I opened the thread I knew I heard of it before, but forgot what it was, I had something like a head scarf in mind. When I read the replies I remembered what it was and that I only heard of it about 2 weeks ago when a friend mentioned it and I was like "what's a bleedin tutu?", but my friend simply told me and didn't say I should know what it is;)

Anyone remember this question coming up on Who Wants to be a Millionaire? It was for about €200 and yer man thought the answer was a "One and one." Gaybo said "That's a bag of chips." Yer man asked the audience and was spared his blushes.

So I guess some others don't know, OP!

Why exactly SHOULD the OP know what a tutu is? It's not like it comes up in everyday conversation.

Shame that person wouldn't vote on the poll, it'd make it look slightly more respectable! Humble pie time methinks...

Tutu: slang-term, used as a noun or adjective to describe a person or action that is surprising, unexpected, crazy (expressing a funny and friendly sentiment).

So, you don't mean "tutu" in slang context? Oh... oh.

    tu·tu (tū'tū)
    n.
A short skirt, often consisting of many layers of gathered sheer fabric, worn by ballerinas.

That's what i was thinking of... having been told of course :D

Didn't you all read those fascinating books (kids novels) about ballerinas in Covent Garden when you were 9? No? Was I the only one? OK. They were absolute rubbish thinking back on them.

    Is a tutu:

    a) A South African bishop?
    b) A funny skirt worn by ballerinas?
    c) An academic qualification?
    d) All of the above?

    A tutu.

    I have an academic qualification
    No need for a bishop

OK. I knew what a tutu was then.
I had also considered that, in slang terms, it may have meant something along the lines of a 'greyhound skirt'... but shorter.
    >_>

Neither does "Spark plug" much these days (Particularly with all those diesels roaming around), but I'm sure most people will have a reasonable clue what it is.

    NTM

I also know what spark plugs are just for the record... and I know that they cost 16.50 EACH when the gits replace them....*grumble*
    AND I've no tutu.. *sigh*

A lot of these threads do make me wonder about the schools, but this one you'd expect a large number of people to have learnt before school age, so you can't blame the education system this time.
