Would I be crazy to try this piercing for a third time?

    Hey everyone!

I got my bellybutton peirced when I was 16. It was slow to heal and never fully settled. After about nine months it nearly grew completely out, it was so painful I nearly fainted. I couldn't keep it in much longer, it was literally just hanging on, practically ripping out! (disgusting I know, sorry about the details :D) Well anyway the scar healed up and I got it repierced a year later. The second time was very sore actually getting it pierced unlike the first time but it healed quickly and I had almost no trouble with it. Then I began to notice it slowly creeping out.... again!!! So I removed it before it ripped like the first one. But now I really miss it!! Would it be nutts to try get it one more time but this time with a different piercer?!

ive had my tragus pierced 3 times, first two times i had to remove it due to me sleeping on em. quite substantial scar tissue built up. I put vitamin D on it though and it calmed down. Finally went and got it pierced for the final time. Had no problems with it. Id never get anything pierced more than 3 times.

Talk to a piercer and see what they say, all depends if theyre willing to do it or not. however, its your body after all

Okay, kool thanks!! I've a feelin' any piercer I'll ask will tell me not to bother with it anymore. It'd be kool to have it again though!! :)

Go to a different piercer; ask their advice.

Ok, I'll go have a word with somebody here in Dublin about it. Maybe I'll be luckier with them. I let the same guy do it the last two times so maybe third time lucky with a different piercer! Thank You!! :)

Go to a different piercing place to get alternative advice, but one thing is if they say go for it without looking at the scar tissue build-up that you probably have - RUN AWAY! We can't see what it looks like so that's probably your best bet. :)

Uh oh... better get my running shoes on! Ah really though, it's not that bad lookin, very little build up actually. Healed much better this time than the last time. Last scar was in bits!

I'd say go to one of the regularly recommended studios/piercers and you can't go too far wrong. They'd be able to tell you if it's a good idea or not!

Did you get it done with a gun or a needle?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,556 ✭✭✭MizzLolly

Needle! I'd never get anything other than my ears done with a gun. I heard that's a bad way to do it!!??!!

It's a disasterous way to do it! May I ask where you got it done before?

It's in Carlow. I feel too nice to say their name!! :D I just won't go back, I learned not to trust them when they asked could they take the big bar back for my tongue after I changed it! Eww!!!! So don't worry I'm finished with them now!

Yeah but the thing is if their work is so shoddy shouldn't you name and shame to prevent others having the same problems?

It's in a town with a population of like 7??!!! I think people know what they're like by now anyway!! :D

Besides I haven't talked to a piercer about by bellybutton yet so maybe it was nothing they did wrong at all!! It's just the tongue bar thing that freaked me out, having said that, my tongue has been a dream to heal! No problems whatsoever (except when I got the flu :( ) Hahaha... but I'll keep quiet til I know whether or not they caused the problem with my bellybutton coz I heard it's pretty common for them to grow out.. :)

If you're gonna go to someone in Dublin I highly recommend Snakebite on Abbey Street, especially Steve who I've personal experience of. They will not steer you wrong, if a piercing is a bad idea for any reason they'll tell you, unlike some piercers who will just do whatever you want and be damned. If the piercing you want isn't advisable, they will explain why, and then they will try and come up with alternatives for you.

They hate letting people down, but at the same time the reputation of piercing as a craft is far too important to them for them to take chances. Far more important than money, or getting known as wild artists.

These guys are sooo nice! I was really nervous when I went to get my ear done, and the guy who did it was so friendly and straightforward about everything he was going to do and why he was going to do it. I actually had fun while I was in there, and they gave great aftercare advice.

I third Steve at Snakebite. Did my PA and while I was nervous as hell going in, he had me relaxed and laughing in no time, and also explained everything really well. :)

Oh okay, kool! Maybe I'll drop into them then. May wait til I get paid!!! I gotta get my tattoo fixed too (I know, I'm a disaster... haha) so I gotta get saving!!! :D

I've only had a jewellery change and a tattoo there but they were excellent. Very friendly staff who seem to know their stuff. Was in asking about getting another ear piercing but they recommended I wait until my cold was gone because I was already healing two things (nape and conch) and it would be a little much all at once. I haven't been pierced there before but any experiences I've had with them were very positive. Will be going there for my next one.
