Well I just bought myself a 40gb PS3. I'm real happy with it. Before I bought it I weighed up the pros and cons and compared it with the XBox 360. The Playstation came out on top in my opinion but thats another matter entirely. Anyway, I checked out a PS3 forum and I can't believe the crap that is posted on it. This forum was full of ignorant narrow-minded Playstation fans who hate the 360. You'd think that Bill Gates had raped their own mother. They take the PS3 vs Xbox rivalry so personally. If I thought the 360 was a better machine, I would have bought it, simple as that. This is an example of some of the crap posted:

what? how can you say xbox have the better library?! i mean ps3 have games like FEAR, Ristance, motorstorm (you said), elder scrolls IV, splinter cell DA, Fight night 3 and many more! xbox games, apart from gears of war which is o.k., are crap! give up, ps3 wins the library battle!

But this really sums it up. (Same moron again)

i'm sorry gay boy, what? at what point did i say they wern't avalible on xbox 360? sadly, and not to disapoint all your xbox 360 worshippers out there, i was talking about GOOD games, and all the games i listed SUCK on the xbox 360, but dont on the ps3 because... ah, now why was it... oh yea, the xbox 360 is a ton of scrap heap crap that bill gates decided to stick together with chewing gum! it dosn't deserve the title 'games console', cos its not, its a paper wieght, nothing more!

If you don't like the Xbox, don't buy it. I haven't seen any of this stupidity on this forum so thought I'd post it here to see what reasonable people think of it.

PS: I know this is not confined to Playstation fans. I'm sure Xbox heads can be just as ignorant. Just using this one example.

Try reading most xbox forums(not on this site, its actually pretty well moderated), its the same. I imagine its the same on nintendo only forums.

I own a PS3 and will admit the game selection is quite poor at the moment.

I wouldn't buy a wii because I see little lasting power and the 360 is appealing except for monthly gaming charges.

I bought a PS3 because I am a mark for final fantasy, and don't really like Halo.

I'll prob get a 360 some day, when a killer app for me appears on it

I own a Wii and now a PS3. We'll probably pick up an Xbox 360 Elite shortly too. All three serve different purposes for us. The Wii is unsurpassed at party games and sheer silly fun. It doesnt take itself seriously and neither should you. Its really a must have if you like goofing off playing silly games with your mates. The ps3 is a serious piece of kit and we have eeked every last drop of tech out of it both as a games machine and as a media server. Mostly Amp did actually
The 360 seems to have the edge in multiplayer online games and we'll probably pick it up to complete the triumvirate because we are pretty hardcore gamers.

Fanaticism of any kind, be it about a religion, a soccer team, a nationality, an operating system or a games console, to name a few, is what is wrong with this world at the moment. There seems to be no room for the middle path any more and polarisation is deemed something to be proud of. Tribalism gone mad if you ask me....

It's fairly pathetic alright, you just have to learn to block this kind of crap out.
The PS3 is a great machine, and has a lot of potential, but I can't see it ever replacing my 360 as my primary console.

I'm of the opinion of the following, that this time next year:

the PS3 will open it's legs and show it's class (ooohh matron) and be in it's full stride. Exclusive games will be appearing, Home will be well established and online problems with games will be a thing of the past, as developers become more familiar with the PS3's technology and as such PS3 versions of non exclusive games will become bigger and better than the other versions.

the Wii's popularity (and let's face it, it's novelty) will have droppped significantly (don't worry people, there should be plenty of machines in stock Christmas 2008 if you can wait that long) and Nintendo start to develop their next handheld console.

Xbox will still be in a silver medal position as it brings out it's 6th version of the 360 trying desperately to get to the No.1 spot it so desperately craves, but for one reason or another just can't manage to attain.

Why do people dismiss the Wii? There was a similar attitude to the DS and look how that turned out.

I remember the arguements of Spectrum vs C64, Megadrive vs Snes, ST vs Amiga, Sadturn vs Greystation, Dreamcast vs Everyone, PS2 vs Xbox, PS3 vs 360.
But then you have the PC vs Mac, a debate of fanboy proportions that positively revels in discussing each others shortcomings, there you go, I suppose.

As for models of the PS3, there are 5 world wide,
20gb poverty model in NTSC regions, discontinued.
40gb model in NTSC and PAL, cheaper, cutback features.
60gb model NTSC, with hardware PS2 compat.
60gb model PAL, with crappy software PS2 compat.
80gb model NTSC, with same crappy software PS2 compat.

So thats quite a few, for a company that was so critical of Microsoft for releasing the 360 in two flavours, with a HDD or without.

Nintendo seem to have stayed out of the pissing competition, either through folk being indifferent to their products, N64 and GC, or by being the best at what they do, providing videogaming bliss, with the Wii and DS

And no, their won't be plenty of Wii consoles available for Christmas, they will be very hard to get, together with the DS, because they are the consoles people want to buy, above all others, and that is why the panic to find them has already begun, with shops selling out already.

I'm not a sony fan at all ,I always think there entertainment stuff is way overrated. But they always seem to put a lot of work into the playstation.

They seem to know what people will want and put the work into that end of things.

I can see people buying the playstation as a media player and have more than one around the house. Wireless audio streaming etc.

That's a good point. The majority of my favourite games on Nintendo machines would be from Nintendo and I'm sure you'll see that the top selling games on the machine are from the Nintendo stable. Third party games just don't seem to sell well (probably why it doesn't have great third party support). The major exception would be the Resi Evil series.

Hmm, of my 14 DS and Gamecube games only 4 of them are first party games. The DS certainly isn't selling on just first party titles.
