    Link to UK site
    Link

Looks a bit of an odd price as its 489 sterling in UK. Looked very carefully though and it was definitely marked as e499.

Yes it was euro 499 - definitely - on display in the new Mahon Point retail park Argos extra. I was surprised at the price so I had a closer look to make sure it was referring to the correct tv etc and it definitely was.

They don't handle electrical goods on the www.argos.ie site, only on the .co.uk site due to WEEE charges calculation for each item under Irish law I think.

Anyway, checked this TV out and the girl on the checkout seemed puzzled that there is no price at all for this model on their system. She 'rang upstairs' and informed me that, even though it said on her till-screen that they would be in stock on Wednesday, in fact they wouldn't-anywhere! She didn't know why.

Anyway, looks like they're on to this one! :) Worth a try anyway!

(A bit OT, but there's a Bratz TV/DVD combo thats half price on the UK site (now £64.99STG, = €91.04). But price here is €110 and out of stock everywhere!).

Don't know if anyones potentially interested in this. I went back into the argos in Mahon point and the TV is still on display with the euro 499 price
As per the linked photo. I checked the stock and it says there will be 7 available tomorrow (didn't even confirm price just said it would be available tomorrow). It might still be worth a lash if anyones interested.

Alright - last time banging on this drum. I was in Argos Extra in Mahon Point and I checked stock - there are 7 in - they are confirmed as €499 - I even asked a staff member and they confirmed price and availability.

I'm not in the market for one as I got the lovely Sharp from Currys but if I was I don't think you could beat €499 for a 37" HD Ready LCD even if it is Bush.

Thats a great price for a 37" LCD if i had the money I'd be in buying one myself

Tis funny - I've tried ring and reserve for a few stores and they quote the price as €10,011.99. I think if someone might be interested you should go to a store and take a punt. Its obviously not 10grand and in store in Mahon Point they were quoting €499 on the stock checker. To find out where the stock is available use ring and reserve.

    anyone?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,823 ✭✭✭neacy69

has anyone checked this in any store other the mahon point?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 893 ✭✭✭Doodlebug

Checked this again today in both Argos (Crescent Shopping Centre) and Argos Extra in Limerick. Used stock checker in crescent - didn't bother queueing to ask this time! The price checker showed the correct description for this TV but no price as posted above.

Argos Extra's price checker system was down, so asked at till and was told that the number for this item "does not exist"! Maybe it has something to do with their stock checker being down??

Noticed that the UK site is showing this item as reduced from STG£499 to £399 today!

The mystery continues! Anyone try Mahon Point? If the sign is still up, I seriously think you have a good case for false advertising if they don't sell it at that price!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 481 ✭✭walshki

If I'm passing again I'll ask at the checkout but honestly I'm not in the market for this and I'm not due to go in there so I'm not going to find out imminently.

If someone is interested then I'd say there's a good chance that, in Mahon Point at least, they will get this TV for €499. I'd be even more inclined to think this now that the UK price has dropped to £399. It showed up with that price on the stock checker in store - I assume the checkout must be linked to the same system so I'd expect it to work out - why its not like that in other stores God only knows. I'm trying to persuade a buddy to buy one just to satisfy my curiosity but he'd not convinced he needs a 3rd LCD tv :)

Went into Argos in Killarney with model number etc. A very helpful salesperson eventually found a reference on the system at a price of €9999.99 - a little expensive for a TV! Anyway, he rang Mahon Point to find out the story - the TVs have a different Argos code from the €10,000 ones, and on Tuesday evening they had 3 left. They managed to reserve one for us, and the salesperson also reserved one for himself as he also thought them a bargain! When we collected it this afternoon, there was 1 on display and none left in stock, but for anyone else interested there will be 5 more will be available on Monday 26th according to their computer. Hubby setting it up as I type. Many thanks for the info.

Was in Argos Mahon Point today and they still had the tv on show in the store. When I tried to buy it I was told that it was out of stock and won't be in till next weekend at the earliest, tried to reserve it but was told it was too early to do so.
Tried to ring and reserve but the price is still €10,000 on the system.
    Has anyone more information?
Could the poster that got one please post the code they used to purchase it!!

That's the number that comes up as 10 grand on the Irish ring and reserve and in stores. The one maxim got was apparently a different number, but same TV.

You'll have to excuse my shaky hand and camera phone for the blurry picture. You're right that was the code and that was the code on the stock checker in the store which was showing up with the correct price also. The problem appears to be that the person who bought it says they got it with a different code. This seems particularly odd given that thats the displayed item code under the TV. Its still all wrong on ring and reserve - won't allow you to check stock because its more than £1000 even though it isn't its just the ring and reserve quotes it as costing 10k. None of it makes sense. I'm passing Mahon Point on my way home shortly. I'll call in and ask in store what the story is and see if there's an alternative item code.

I was in Argos in Mahon Point. Checked on stock checker and said not in stock but I could reserve it at the check out. Went to check out - girl said there would be 3 in stock on Monday and she could reserve it. She confirmed item code (529 3207) was correct and the price was €499. I said not to bother reserving it but if someone really wants one and could be in Cork to collect it on Monday I'd be willing to drop in tomorrow morning and reserve one on my way to work. I could provide you with the reservation number. PM me if you are interested (first come first served). Think they'll only let me reserve one.

    Here's what i think happened:
In argos, some items come in with their prices at €9999.99 and have to be changed by management to correct prices (from catalogue). Not often but occasionally things slip through the system.
Maybe the store manager changed it and put in the wrong price....?
This is the first thing that came into my head, as i used to work in an argos store and occasionally stumbled across this.
get em while you can I reckon!!

was in argos yesterday evening, in mahon, and saw the tv on the display for 499..looks a valid offer alright...

What does it look like in terms of quality. The 600:1 contrast is the lowest i've ever seen for a 37".Then again you need to ask yourself if you buy a 1080p sharp for 999 in currys are you really getting twice the tv???

Did anyone actually get this T.V. Also, if they did whats the quality etc like. Anyone got any pics of it. It would be good to get some feedback? I mean it seems a real bargain for a 37".

Please post a mini personal review if possible?

    Cheers!

Like others I'd like to see some sort of review.

Anyway just to stir it up I note that they also have a 32" bush LCD TV on sale for €399 - see link Link
    Catalogue number 529 2356

Again doesn't come up on the Irish website and I can't get through to ring and reserve at the moment so I don't know if its showing up there or not.

    Anyway, happy hunting.

The 32" TV is coming up as €10,000 on the Ring and Reserve phone line same as the 37" TV!!!

But that is 399 pounds not euros.

But that is 399 pounds not euros.

399 pounds in UK - 399 euros on display in Argos Mahon point. I had to use the UK website to give a link to TV because its not on argos.ie but its definitely displayed as €399.

Must call into my local Argos xtra store tomoro to see what all the fuss is about,
but whats the norm price for a 37" as what telly did basq get for what price & Bush is it a reliable telly?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,357 ✭✭✭snappieT

I work in Argos, so I'll just clarify a few things.

Prices are updated from a central server on a regular basis. The only way a price would vary from store to store is if a manager changed the price of that individual item on the system since the last update. Updates are frequent enough, 3/4 days between them, sometimes (and often) less.

Items that appear as €9999.99 you will notice are not in the main catalogue. I recall problems with this TV when printing out price tickets. It's not in the actual catalogue, and we didn't have prices for catalogue launch, but it was on the list for TVs to go on display. There was confusion as to whether it was a UK-only model or not. We've since traded it.

Remember that a price instore is only an invitation to treat, and the retailer is not obligated to sell it at that price.

If stock-checker shows the price as €499, go right ahead and try and buy, but don't expect anything if the price is shown as anything else.

    With regards to the
Argos Extra's price checker system was down, so asked at till and was told that the number for this item "does not exist"! Maybe it has something to do with their stock checker being down??
An item is automatically created on the system if it is part of a delivery. If a UK-only TV made it's way to stores, it would be created (and an understanding of the catalogue number by the tills would follow). For stores that didn't recieve these mistaken TVs, the catalogue number would therefore not exist.
the girl on the checkout seemed puzzled that there is no price at all for this model on their system. She 'rang upstairs' and informed me that, even though it said on her till-screen that they would be in stock on Wednesday, in fact they wouldn't-anywhere! She didn't know why.
    quotes:
No such thing as "no price at all". Price would have been €9999.99. The reason they may not be coming into stock is that someone finally copped on not to send UK-TVs to Ireland, and the deliveries were being cancelled.

Everything I've said so far is speculation based on past experience. I'll check it out tomorrow (yay, passing picket lines!), and get back to you.

OK, I checked it out. It's not in the catalogue, or any flyer of ours, so we never necessitated to get a price.

Go right ahead and try it in Mahon Point, but for any store you don't see it in print, don't even try.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 532 ✭✭✭raddo

    Finally managed to get one!!!
Went into Argos Mahon Point on Friday evening, the TV was still advertised at €499. Checked it out on the checker and it said out of stock. Went to the Checkout and spoke to a very helpful woman who told me that they were out of stock and wouldn't be in till Friday week at the earliest. She then checked other stores and found one in stock in Killarney and reserved it for me.
Went down today to collect it. Went to checkout with the reserve ticket(?). Was told that it was €9999.99, obviously I said that was not the price, she asked me what price it was and got her manager to put in the price as €499.99.Job done!!

Just hooked it up, very happy with it!!

    Howdy,

I had reserved one of the tvs for someone but they can't make it to Cork as it turns out so I have a reservation number for one of the €499 37" tvs if someone wants to avail. The reservation number is good until Friday (so they told me in the Mahon Point store). Pm me if you want it and will be in a position to pick it up by Friday.

I've only heard of people actually getting them in Killarney and Mahon Point in Cork. Someone tried to get one in Limerick and even though there was stock the price was €9999.99 and they refused to sell it to him.
