    Hey All,

Well i bought myself a new 500gig hard drive for my PC. Its a Dell Pc that i got a few months ago with a 160gig SATA HD already in it. But when i went to put the new SATA HD in as a secondary, realised that i had only one SATA connection on the motherboard.

So was wondering do these converters work, or a mate said that i can get a PCI adapter card that can connect the HD.

    Whats the best option.

If you have a SATA HD to put in to a SATA PC then you need a SATA spliter/expander, no?

That converter is for connecting an IDE disk to an SATA controller, not what you're looking for.

Are you sure only have one SATA port on the motherboard? That's pretty shitty, even for Dell.

You could get an SATA PCI card, eBay, online shops, or even PC World sell them fairly cheap. This would be better than a converter as you'll be limiting the speed of the drive to PATA speeds, if it even works at all.

AFAIK you can only connect one drive to any SATA controller, so any kind of splitter cable won't work either.

Yep, you'll get them on any online retailer. Komplett Link

These give you the option then if you ever want to add more SATA drives and it's a piece of hardware, not some dodgy bodge. My brother bought a connector to connect a laptop HDD to an IDE cable and while it kind of worked, it was so iffy to make it less than worthwhile.
