Well if you are to outline methods of IT-based communication, have a look at the use of intranets and Content Management Systems. It's a starting point anyway.

Mention email, shared calenders, shared departmental network drives, intranet web sites, could look at web conferences, web cams stuff like that, could talk about how web conferences have made it easier for companies to communicate more efficiently, web training, same set up as a conference except a tutor at the other end with a mic and a web cam.

If you are looking for something new, you could do some googling on server consolidation using virtualisation (running multiple virtual servers on one or more physical servers).
Also, storage area networking is getting more mainstream these days.

Not new, but you could include something about VPNs for remote access for home based workers, and site to site VPNs for connecting offices.

Someone already mentioned intranets, but extranets might also be worth a mention.

What you talk about really depends on what industry you are looking at. For example small solicitors office will have different requirements to a multinational manufacturing company.

The public sector is a large user of groupware like Lotus Notes. This is an application that tends to be very prominent in multinationals too.
