    Hello y'all,
I have a Guild D6 Acoustic. I can't seem to find out details on its pickup. Basically, it has no preamp and has a very, very bright sound when plugged in. As its my baby:), I'd like to use it live, but alot of engineers don't know what to do with it. Even when you turn up the bass and lower the treble on the desk, it can still be too bright. I've been told to get the Boss eq pedal, and play through that. Would that be recommended? Alternatively, how much would it be to get a really good pickup installed? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks guys.
    Jimi.

it's most likely a version of the fishman natural II
had one in an old Tak that was quite bright too

i'd go for this as it might warm things up a bit...

If it's a fishman matrix you already have a good pickup and the preamp is built into the end pin to condition the pickup. If it's the matrix there should be a 9V battery compartment in the guitar ..probabaly in the guitar beside the heel.

There is no preamp, its passive. It was made in 1993, if that would indicate anything? Someone once said it may be some martin pickup?

All and all though, an eq pedal will do the trick?

mmmm ...you might be better off with a Baggs Para DI. Maybe you should bring your guitar into a shop and try out both thru a PA and pick the best sounding one :)

Not really. If the high shelf or sweepable mid on a desk couldn't take the edge off, then a 7 band guitar EQ isn't going to do a lot of good either. The Boss EQ is noisy as hell, and a bit of a tone killer besides.

If it really is a passive pickup then finding the right DI or preamp for it is probably more the issue here. If the impedance is all wrong, then your tone is going to come out either thin or dull. And it's very hard to EQ that back in.
