Ha. Saw the glasgow gig was announced and pretty much predicted an RDS gig would be on the cards. I hate hate hate the RDS yet this is sure to sell out.

Would they even want to play the Point again after '96?

Besides the RDS is the traditional Dublin hardrock/metal venue for anyone of that genre who can fill it.

Gonna have to go see this:D Anyone have any idea of what their gigs are like lately? Wouldn't mind a good bit of adore and TAFH thrown into the mix! Haven't been paying much attention to them lately:o

I've never been to any RDS indoor gigs but I haven't heard good things about the sound in there or Simmonscourt.

Nonetheless, I probably won't be going to this. I expect a price of €55+ and the two times I saw them last year weren't what I'd call "amazing". The fact that they're rearranging the setlist somewhat is a deciding factor. Also, if they brought along some good support...

Nah, I'll go to Frank Black instead. ;)

Well I've been Pumpkins fan for years but I've managed to miss them everytime they came to Dublin. Not going to happen this time no matter the cost.

I've seen Frank Black 3 times now and he's rubbish live. Always gives off the feeling like he'd rather be somewhere else.

This is just typical of my luck. I'm pretty much barred from going to gigs(going to a rake of them in the coming months), then SP finally announce a Dublin date, and when they finally do that, its at the RDS. I'm gonna have to firstly shut up about this to my parents, then I'm gonna have to grin and bear while they play in this barn on tarmac.

I haven't listened to their latest album, and I haven't heard great things about their live show these days.

As it'll most likely have a rip off ticket price, I'll probably give it a miss.

They perform well imo, it just doesn't "feel" like The Pumpkins. I could do without D'arcy and Auf Der Maur but Iha is sorely missed.

Since the venue is quite small and a guaranteed sellout, I predict a second date will be added the night before. So I might do this and Frank Black.

What is the capacity of the RDS?

Think it holds around 5000. Although think the site says 7000.

The RDS has four main facilities: the Concert Hall with seating for up to 900, the Main Hall with a capacity of between 3,000 and 5,000 depending on seating arrangements, Simmonscourt Pavilion which seats up to 7,000 spectators and the RDS Stadium with a capacity of over 35,000

Whichever is the relevant one, I'm thinking its the 7000 capacity venue.

If they do a second night, it'd be great, doubt it though, even if/when it does sell out.

So, any ideas on when tickets will be on sale?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,834 ✭✭✭Toast

If the promoters have any sense it will be before the other 2 large concerts in a couple of weeks at the same venue which will remind everyone how terrible that venue is. Also a point to note this is almost definetly going to be a forbidden gig so expect this thread to disappear when its confirmed.

I swore I'd never go to another gig at this venue(after my one solitary trek inside there). I knew if they played here, it'd be there, would have to happen. I'm just gonna get up the front, sound cant be that bad all over the venue can it?

Either way, it'll still be them, so hopefully something decent will happen from it. And also rehearsing 9 new songs from the back catalogue...please say Geek USA is one of them. Also downloaded the 1996 Dublin show...harrowing to say the least. About ten songs, 3 warnings, then cancelled. Sounded nuts.

you wont notice the sound quality if your up at the front anyway, its not bad, its just not..great.

im sure we're going to pay an arm and a leg for this gig, im thinking 60-70€, sadly.
the day the point opens, it will be a happy day, we will finally have a nice big venue that will hoefpully have good sound.

Cheers for that! As for price, well, it will be a rip off, but I dont mind too much, I only intend on seeing them once.

Never though I'd see/hear myself agreeing with that statement.

Actually, Cookies, contenders for headline Werchter slot perhaps?
