Reasons for only wanting to work part time

What should i tell the interviewer? Just been through a very traumatic period with anxiety and panic attacks and don't want work full time until I feel more settled in myself. Was called for an interview by a shoe shop... Has anyone any suggestions as to what I could tell them?. Ideally I'd like to work weekends only to begin with.

    Any suggestions appreciated

    Thanks
    T

Tell them you have other commitments during the week, tell them you're a student. It's not their business.

I agree, tell them you have other commitments but make sure it's something they can't check up on. If you tell them you're a student they might start asking, "where, what are you studying, etc." and want a reference from your college.

You could tell them you're writing a novel or working on a project or something, which you want to keep up during the week. Or that you have to mind an old relative.

Part time retail jobs will never want a reference from your college.

Just say you're a student, or a part-time student, or doing a masters or something. Lie to them, they won't check into it.

You don't need to lie about anything.

Just say, 'I am only available to work weekends'

I agree with an above poster, it's none of their business why

but if they ask, if it were me, I might say it's because I'm recovering from an illness but I woudln't specify which one :D

or I would say I have other commitments, hopefully they wouldn't pry further. If I were to say "I'm going back to school" that might invite further friendly questions

It's actually the shop 'Schuh'...want to get my story staright...not just for this interview...but for others...I know from past experience that there is often high levels of pressure exerted to work beyond contracted hours.....and I don't want to overstrain myself yet...as my ability varies.....

My doctor did write me a short-term disability Cert- 3-6 months...but incredibly nearly 2 months on I have yet to hear a response.

I am not seeking to milk any system...some work is rehabilitative and positive for so many reasons...just don't want to rush things and for any job not to last

That'll come back to haunt her if someone's doing the same course she's pretending to do. Or even knows someone.

Schuh will want you to work 25 hours a day for the pre-christmas period & it will be very stressful, I used to do footwear in lifestyle. Are you sure it's a good idea at the moment?

Just say you are only available for the hours you are, if they want more of a response just tell them you have family commitments or personal reasons at the minute that are not conjustive to you working full time.

just say you've other commitments. if they ask what those commitments are, say you're a student in the open university scheme... studying management or something. they can't really check up on that as easily as if you were in a "normal" college/uni
