Insulation Problem - Help needed

    Hey folks,

House has finally got underway and is up to first floor level, ready for measuring for the hollowcore.
However I have a problem. I initially wanted the cavity for the house to be either 5 or 6 inches so that I could pump it with insulation. After measuring tonight I found that the cavity is just 4 inches, either down to the blocklayer messing up or the providers sending out the wrong wall ties.

What are my options with regards to insulation? I still want to pump the cavity but do I now have to dry line the inside walls? I was hoping not to have to do this.

    Is external insulation an option?

Im open to correction on this but I dont believe there is any pumped insulation that will give give you any more than the minimum standard required and most wont even come close with a 100 mm cavity

How do you mean Muffler? Are you saying that with the 100mm cavity we have that we should be fine pumping it? Or am I missing the point.

Pumping 100mm cavity with the best bead available (Grey) will not achieve the 0.27 elemental U-value requirement under the regulations - it will achieve 0.29.

Becareful with pumped if you're using any facing brick - there are restrictions.

If you want to insulate the house properly (Say up to the standards on the new Part L that'll be in early next year) - you'll have to dry line as well.

Hi Ardara, the front of the house will be faced with Natural stone so we may have to look into the restrictions with that. I was hoping to be able to stay away from dry lining as I feel it can cause problems with hanging anything on the walls or could there be a risk of damaging the wall if something hits off it?

Dry lining is not THAT delicate - no more than stud partitions . Light objects like clocks or small mirrors can be hung with plasterboard plugs. In the case of rads , kitchen wall units ,heavy shelving then cut in hardwood grounds .

Id rather try for external dry lining than internal.
