connecting a DVD recorder & Sky Box

I have just had sky installed (basic sky box) and also have an LG HDD recorder model RH177. I have connected both to the TV using scart leads (and the instructions supplied) and have run the 'auto programming' on the DVD but it's not picking up any channels - the DVD plays what's on the hard drive and any dvd that's I insert. I'd appreciate any help/advice to tune in the dvd recorder so I can record programmes directly. Thanks

    Edit

i found this site & followed the instructions but still can't tune the dvd recorder into channels (perhaps this isn't possible?) but my question is - how do I set the DVD recorder to record a programme that I'm not watching and is it possible to watch one channel while recording another?

Thanks in advance for your help

Step 1. Connect main TV aerial into set-top-box

Step 2. Connect an aerial lead from the set-top-box to DVD/video recorder aerial in

Step 3. Connect an aerial lead from the DVD/video recorder aerial out, to the TV aerial socket

Step 4. Connect set-top-box to DVD/video recorder with SCART lead

Step 5. Connect set-top-box to TV with SCART lead

To watch digital TV, set your TV to 'Line In / AV'.

To record digital TV, you'll need to set your DVD/video recorder to 'Line In / AV' (i.e the feed from the set-top box comes via the SCART feed, not on a tunable channel).

To watch the DVD/video recorder, you'll need to tune a spare channel on the TV to the modulated output of the Video recorder.

The instructions you found look ok.

You need to connect the SKY box to your DVD recorder with a SCART lead in order to record what's on SKY. There is a TV SCART socket and a VCR SCART socket on the SKY box. No possibility of recording something else from SKY box other than what you're currently watching. That's what SKY+ is for;)

If you have an aerial or cable tv setup and your DVD recorder has a tuner, then you can loop the cable through it to the tv and record something else, but I'm not sure if this is your situation - you didn't say if you had cable as well.

To record digital TV, you'll need to set your DVD/video recorder to 'Line In / AV'

Im guessing this is where the O/P is going wrong

Is there a *SOURCE button on your remotecontrol (It should give options like "TV" "Front AV" and "SCART" - SCART is the one you want for recording off satellite)

On some models the SCART input is accessed going down through the Channels i.e. 2, 1, 0, "AV", 99, 98..... (*AV being SCART)

If niether of those work then try swapping the two SCART leads going into the back of your DVD recorder as its possible that one of them is an input and the other is an output

    * Different manufacturers may use slightly different terminology

I think the o/p has connected the SKY box and the DVD recorder to the TV, and has not connected the SKY box to the DVD recorder. In any case he can't do what he wants, which is to record a programme from the SKY box, while watching another.

I also bought an LG DVD recorder the other day. I've spent hours trying to connect it to my Sky box and TV. When I switch off the recorder the picture wont come through the sky box. Also when I try to record I get a message telling there is a 'TV mismatch'.

Gave up on it last night. Packed it back in its box returned it to Power City. Swapped it for a Sony - which I had up and working in a matter of minutes.
