    Evenin' all!!

I was watching TV a few minutes ago and an ad featuring Gay Byrne came on. I immediately got a flashback to the days when he presented the Late Late Toy Show and there would be a segment where somebody like 'Kevo of Scratch Saturday/Physiquiz fame would go through some of the best childrens books.

Uncle Gay would then year in and year out inform us that 'Its important to get the kids reading and it will become a priceless gift for years to come!'

Just one of those 'All Things Retro' flashbacks I suppose!! Anyone else remember Gay telling us on the toy show about the importance of reading???

Oh yeah, "no matter what toys are available, the best gift you can give a child is a book." Every year the same line. I thought he was an awful killjoy but now I've become like that because the only presents I buy for my godchild are educational ones!

I do remember the time the microphones must have come back on after the end credits had just finished after the late late show, and you could clearly hear good old gaybo shouting to the audience "For gods sakes people, have you no homes to go to"?

That's correct, and Ryan Turgidy is at the same thing now...we all know where he got that from...he's just trying to act Gay!

I was watching a program recently that showed a few previous Late Late appearances by Sinead O Connor, stretching back to the late 80's.

I never realized that Gay fancied her so much. He's like a dog in heat in some of the clips :o

I remember too the time Britt Eckland appeared on the Late Late. Gaybo was like a dog in heat that night for certain. He could barely stop himself from touching her knee

The books section was one of my favourite parts of the Toy show :) I loved books as a kid (as I do now).

    Ah memories :)
There was always a pop up book at the start of that section too to ease you into the idea that this bit might actually be interesting and fun but then they'd inevitably move onto a history book and then an Irish book. Then there'd be complaining and shouts of "b-o-r-i-n-g!" in my house. At least it gave you a chance to stock up on the goodies though without missing out on any good toys! I loved books as a child but I almost never saw one that caught my attention on the Toy Show. I only remember "The Hounds of the Morrigan" as the exception to that rule.
I still love the toy show. Oh to be 8 again :)
