I'm insured through AIB and with their home insurance you can get an "ALL RISKS" addition to your policy wher you specify what it is you want to be covered on "ALL RISKS" and you tell them if any 1 specific item is over €1170 (I think its €1170?) and anything else thats under the €1170 you tell them the total value of the items.

I own my apt, but my insurance is contents only. So, the same situation as renting.

My policy is with Sun Alliance, and I have all my camera gear insured on that.

Axa do contents only. I was quoted 150 PA but not sure about expensive camera equipment or coverage level - out of home etc.. There are plenty of companies offering contents only these days.

if you earn any money from your photography kit, your house insurance wont be valid.

i have a seperate policy for my camera kit, i got it from europlan insurance on stephens green

it cover me all risks worldwide

Just curious - what does a "professional insurance" policy cover? I'm considering getting one. Currently all of my photography is for hobby reasons and I don't make money. My gear is insured under my home policy.

But, just in case, I'm curious about getting some commercial cover. I gather that the cost depends on the kit you have etc, but I'm just wondering roughly what it covers and a ballpark figure.

If you take equipment on hols, do you need to ensure that it is covered on your holiday insurance then - what happens if covered under contents and is being used outside of the home. Silly question, but am still learning (first time poster to this section of the forum, long time lurker)

If its covered under an all risks addition to your home policy (needs to be named specifically, serial no's supplied), then you are covered for all risks, including holidays ect. There is a extra charge for all risks ( I think for me of about €15/€1000 of cover).

    my pro policy covers

10K worth of kit, with all major items listed

2.6 Mill worth of public liability

    13 Mill of employers liability

and covers kit in the car, airplane hold etc

th airplane one is cool, as most house insurance only covers stuff when its in your possession

i cant remember hat else it covers, but it makes a big difference if you travel etc

That sounds good. Care to give a rough price of what it costs you? Just to the nearest 10 or so would be useful. Thanks.

    oh sorry thought i said

    its around 450 a year

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,381 ✭✭✭✭Paulw

Expensive!! But, I guess it depends what you need and it depends on your equipment.

Not sure I'd have need for public liability nor employers liability.

    Thanks for the info.

FBD do cover for rented accommodation, I have 9K camera gear listed with 60 days worldwide cover at the cost of 120 for the year. Its cheaper if you dont do worldwide or europe only. The 120 covers 25k house contents, thats the minimum.

I've wondered how many people have there equipment insured. I often see a leaflet fall out of my photography mag. and was wonder is it worth it.

New start soon, new house...and definitely insurance. There's a 70-200 f2.8L IS on the way...so that in itself warrants a policy
