So I have a desk and at it is a lovely swivel chair. Unfortunately when I sit at the desk my knees touch the edge (and I'm not tall). Trying to work on college essays results in back pain because I am so high up so will someone please tell me how to lower the stupid chair? I pulled the two levers and they just adjust the back. I sat on it and spun round and round in both directions, and then did it again with the levers pulled. Now I just feel dizzy and am still too tall for the desk. People of AH, can you help me?

Eat sticky buns til you put on enough weight that gravity provides the solution.

There's probably a bolt you can turn underneath the seat part to adjust the height.

Sometimes there's a lever under the chair on the right that when you pull with your weight on the chair it goes down. Other than that, prop up your desk.

Should be the one on the right hand side towards the front. As Paige said:

No other chairs available, no bolt to lower it, no lever to lower it. I'm at home so no men about and the only one I know if very...effeminate.

    This chair is just insane.

if the chair has wheels, remove them.

if not, remove your 10th, 11th, 12th and 13th vertabrae and join the 9th to the 14th. you'll be much shorter then

    Break the wheels off.

Think outside the box, if you can't get your knees under the table then try getting the table over your knees!

Grab a load of beer mats from your local and stick about 10 of them under each leg of the table.

    Stop standing on your chair.

Are you sitting on the chair when you pull the lever? you should be.

My desk is a massive yoke, you could sleep on it if you wanted. Point being, as a weak girlie I can't lift it to get books under it. For shame.

obtaining a man in 3 easy steps,
    • Put on glad rags
    • Go down to local pub
    • use the female mating call*

You should have your pick of the litter in no time, just remember: Ethiquet dictates that the chair should be fixed before nookie is engaged.

Your probably not fat enough to make the chair go down, I've seen it happen.

Alternatively, pop down to B&Q to purchase a hacksaw and
shorten your legs - just below the knee should be sufficient.

Is there a button underneath that you can press to lower the chair?

Have you tried pulling the levers away from the chair or pushing them in towards the chair?

    Best explanation ever!

I've tried every suggestion, even cut off my legs, and had no joy so I've taken to sitting on my bed. Not ideal but at least I can reach the laptop now!
