Someone I know got a PS3 from the states. The games are black and white when he connects it to a tv.

Will a RGB scart cable sort out this problem ie games in colour ?
Also will games he but here work on the PS3 ?

Does the TV support an NTSC signal? It might be the cause of the black/white output if it doesn't

PS3 games are region free so games purchased here should play in a US PS3

He must have a pretty ancient TV, its due to TV not supporting NTSC mode correctly.

    Edit: DOH beaten to it

An RGB scart cable will sort this problem out but only if your TV supports RGB scart. To be perfectly honest you should be using RGB scart at the very least since the pack in cables are absolutely horrendous for picture quality.

Also try component cables if the TV supports them, €12.99 in game

Your friend should buy a HDTV. Costs a bit but completely worth it.
