    Hi all,

I have decided to upgrade from my rebel 300D and need some advice, I am looking at getting either the 40D or 5D FF, i'll also be getting 24-105 L f/4.0 IS and 70-200 L f/2,8 IS regardless of body and sigma 10-20 or 12-24 dependent on body. general interests are landscapes, architecture and general friends and family stuff.

So my question is, is it worth the extra going FF ? are there any of you that have experience with both and if so what was your preference.

    thanks
    Cormac

For what you shoot, probably the 5D would be more suitable. HOWEVER .... a new 5D is due out early next year (Feb/Mar) so it might be worth your while waiting.

The 40D is a wonderful camera. Brilliant quality of images, fast (6.5 fps), large bursts, sensor cleaning, better AF, better low light ability, etc. A very serious contender, and a good upgrade from your current camera.

Not an easy decision. If I was going to buy now, I'd go for the 40D. If you can wait, see what Canon bring out in the new year.

Pretty much what Paul said. I decided to go for the 40D (coming from the 300d as well) on the basis I didn't want to have to embark on a mass lens upgrade at this point in time, and it's a great camera. Since you've decided to buy lenses anyway, this really won't be an issue for you. The Sigma 10-20 is a lovely wide angle if you do go the non FF route

I'd go for the 5D. It has never been better value and the Image Quality will knock your socks off. Sure it's going to be replaced in a few months time but it's doubtful if the new model will have any significant improvement in IQ and it will certainly be more expensive - probably around €3,000 body only. Get the 5D now - it's a steal.

Perhaps if it will be replaced soon you could wait for the new model to come out and grab the 5D at a bargain price?

It depends on how soon you need the camera I suppose.

Thanks guys for the advice, i'm going to go with the 5d :) Don't have the patience to wait till next year on the hope of a newer model and the cash is burning a hole in my pocket :)

I am going to order it from Kea-Photo, have heard nothing but good things about them, anyone use them before?

    thanks

if you're changing everything, have you considered the D300 or D3 (full frame)
new 24-70 (nano) and 70-200 VR are outstanding

D3's ISO 800 looks exactly the same as ISO 200
