'Plastic pellets from gun hit six year old in the ear' is the large headline and in depth court brief . A 35 year old woman bought an airgun in Cork for 220 euros , used it for shooting at birds, trees and walls . She had 'problems' with children in the area and was found guilty of shooting the 6 year old in the ear with 2 pellets . The pellets were removed from the childs ear canal in a medical examination . The woman was sentenced to 12 months in jail but the judge noted that because the gun did not come under the firearms act , it would have to be returned to the woman . I think we will be seeing more cases like this in the coming months with airsoft guns being 'the' in thing in Cork this year for Christmas presents .

Jesus, a 35 year old woman! You'd think she would have more sense!

She sounds bonkers to behave so irresponsibly.

And everyone was so worried about kids with AEG's, in the end a 35 year old woman uses one like that

um... if someone had clouted the kid over the head with a baseball bat would the judge have still returned it? Do they make a habit of returning weapons* used in a crime?

*= note that in this case, yes the airsoft in question is a weapon because it has been used in a threatening manner, similarly to a golf club becomes a weapon if you use it so

youd kinda understand if they had of been teenagers that where terrorising her or something but to shoot at a 6 year old she needs her head examined although i dont think the airsoft gun is the key part here, she would have been just as likely to punch one or use a baseball bat/hurley etc which would cause a lot more damage., defo got what she deserved.,

actually, i just skimmed the article and have re-read it now, Rustycans: you say the old lady used an airgun? is this correct or was it an airsoft, if it was an airgun then this thread does not belong here, if it was infact an airsoft, please edit your post to reflect this and use the term bbs rather than pellets

how did pellets enter the ear canal? Did she hold the kid down?

i've seen it happen where a bb got lodged in the outer part of somebodies ear at hrta but it was a million in one shot and didnt even hurt as it had to be pointed out for the guy to notice. i wouyld say it was something similir over dramatised

Everything in my post is taken word from the article i.e. quoted . None of my own words . From what i gather it was an airsoft gun though . Having been bought in Cork shop for 220 euro and with ' plastic pellets ' i think its safe to assume so. Feel free to correct me though !

One in a million I would buy it ... but BB's plural? Something about this strikes me as odd.

Either the reporter needs anatomy lessons or their is hyperbole being passed off as fact here.

Thats mighty interesting and from what i can get from it we need people with shots like that:p haha only joking
Its gonna happen they would want to be stupid for not copping on that people would go out and shoot each other with them. Or people shooting neighbourhood nuisances.
Ive thought about it myself sometimes but wouldnt do it for obvious reasons.

One was probably removed ie it fell out when he was in the doctors and he probably had one in his hair or something so suddenly two bbs in his ear canal is born

PLASTIC PELLETS FROM GUN HIT 6 YEAR OLD IN EAR
'A 35 year old woman has been convicted of shooting plastic pellets which hit a six year old in the ear . The child who can not be named for legal reasons took the witness box at Mallow Court ....The young boy told of passing the womans home ... adding 'Marie was shooting a gun and shot me in the ear . '
Asked by the solicitor for the defendent was he doing something that he shouldnt have been he replied ' maybe ' .... when he came home and said to mother that he had been shot in the ear his mother could find nothing wrong but 2 pellets were recovered in medical examination . ....The court was told that the woman had bought the gun in Cork for 220 euro , the pellets for 7.50 and enjoyed shooting at birds , walls and trees ... ( goes on about womans statement to gardai and trying to change her story . She admitted she had problems with local kids but said she did not shoot when kids were around . )The judge said he thought the woman was untruthful in her evidence .The circumstancial evidence is overwhelming, 2 pellets were taken out of the childs ear ..... What is she doing with a gun ? It is incredible , he said . The court had been told a pile of untruths and she had pleaded not guilty .He then imposed the maximum sentence of 12 months in jail but noted that because the particular gun did not come under the firearms act , it would have to be returned to the woman . She was bailed for appeal.'

Damn those crafty walls! they must be eradicated!

Seriously..wtf? Who uses a wall as a target? Not exactly hard to miss, are they?

12 months for shooting a kid and telling a bunch of porkies in court about it....talk about getting off easy.

thats a joke of a sentence. Any sort of impliment used in the course of an assault is normally ordered destroyed by the court. There should be absolutely no difference here. A bit of common sense wouldn't go astray, if she admitted to using it on birds etc then this could come under animal cruelty, and if she gets it back I don't reckon she's learned her lesson.:(

Well shes gonna need SOMETHING to shoot at those pesky trees when she gets out.

"because the gun did not come under the firearms act , it would have to be returned to the woman "

Shouldn't it have been conficated and destroyed?

    "Airgun"

But it sounds like airsoft, I'm afraid.

And the 2 pellets in 1 ear?!? That's laughable, I can't hit a full grown man at 10 metres, what chance does she have?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,401 ✭✭✭Arcto

how did pellets enter the ear canal? Did she hold the kid down?

No. She has 1337 skills as a sniper. I wouldnt like to come up against her at HRTA.

But really i cannot see this effecting airsoft becuase it was a 35 year old woman. Really i cannot. If it was a 6 (more realisically) 12-15 year old who done the same to a 35 year old spinster however, there would be war. Joe duffy style.

I did not see the article but if she managed to land 2 bb's/pellets into the ear canal we must asume it was actually an airsoft marker. Pellet rifles dont do full auto. Anyone know anymore about this?
