I listen to the first 45 minutes or so of Gerry Ryan most mornings on the way to work. I dont know if anybody else has noticed but he is ALWAYS using the phrase "Elephant in the room". I remember the first time I heard him say it was back 6 months ago when Madeline McCann first went missing and people were still a bit hesitant to give out about the parents leaving her alone.. Every since then he seems to say it on a daily basis when talking about various topics... Dont know why it annoys me but it does.. Is he been sponsored by Dublin Zoo? :) I should just listen to something else in the morning I suppose.

I'm tempted to say the only elephant in the room is the host.

But that would be rude :p

    Mike.

You are one of the few people that admit they listen to that 'tabloid tout' then again nobody admits to voting for bertie either. We get what we deserve.

I haven't heard Gerry say it (probably because i haven't listened to him in years)

But i remember listening to him about 6/7 years ago and heard him call a woman he was talking to on the phone a "Horses Tit"

And he kept saying it for the next week or two!

Does anybody else remember him saying this?

He's not the worst, you just try coming up wirh something more original on our overcrowded airwaves and see how difficult it is to keep`all of the people happy all of the time`! His paper review does p*** me off though, I sit in the traffic many mornings on the Clontarf Road with him and he can only get there at a min to 9 there is no way he has read any of those papers!! But to his credit he sticks to the bus lane like most of us unlike the D***ks in the BMs and Mercs

What the hell does that have to do with his (in)ability as a broadcaster ??

Dead right. Wrongly doesn't sound remotely like paedophiles.:D

I hate the way he keeps putting on that posh, stuffy english accent aswell. Whats that about? Recently ive noticed it alot. And sometimes he puts on a culcie Irish accent. Noticed how posh english accent = something good or rich. Something backward or poor = Irish accent. He is a sad individual.

@ popebenny16 ... Yeah what is that all about?

He always says Pay-doh-Feel instead of Pea doh File (im trying to be phonetic here) :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 163 ✭✭Echelle

..and he continues to say CHICARGO....there is no R......arrrrgh.
..and he always says "lurred" for "lured".
A few days ago on the morning show ( I'm usually driving when the Tubridy and Gerry Ryan shows begin around 9.05 and I tend to shuffle between the 2 stations). Gerry Ryan was reviewing the newpaper article about RYANAIR's new girlie calender showing RYANAIR trolly dollies. Apparantely, the article referred to something about asking a trollie dollie on a flight for a date and that she could could give you 365 of them. Dumbo Ryan quips "365? Surely there are'nt 365 girls in the calender..."

I understood your point, they admit it when surveyed for the JNLR figures. If may don't it would mean he is even more popular than the figures suggest. I listen to half an hour of his show every morning I think he's excellent most of the time but can be annoying on occasion, he's human.

    and pronouncing paedophiles wrongly

And in the last hour we had vegan prounanced "vagan" (several times) and the plural of orifice according to Gerry Ryan is "orificii"

I noticed Pavarotti's will was published today and he's left all his clothes to Gerry Ryan.

this morning we had a full ten mins of him discussing how he cuts his sanbos and how he really likes beans, eggs and chips. Oh, Rex Ryan eats a lot. Mrs Ryan cuts the rind off the rashers.

Its those heartwarming insights into his family life that really makes my day all that brighter.

Oh, and he decided that he didnt want listeners to nominate any Irish celebs to go play in the world Sumo championships.... god knows why...

i used to really like gerry ryan when i was younger but i cant think of anyone who i like less on the radio now apart from rick o shea or ruth scott

i used to think gerry was a bit of a rebel , a bit edgy , i see now that the guy is as middle class house in the suburbs as they come

well, today we learnt that Mrs Ryan has to repell the randy advances of Gerry when she gets dolled up to go out on the town.... "any chance of a quickie.... " "no, get away from me" "But you look really lovely all dressed up"

He is a joke, and always bangin on about himself !

I think the reason he appears preoccupied with masturbation is because he's trying to live up to his name.

I hate to be the elephant in the room, but Gerrys a bit of a legend. Does any other Irish radio presenter cause as much controversy and excitement than him? The rest of them are boring in comparison

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,987 ✭✭✭✭zAbbo

I had the misfortune to hear his show this morning, between some biddy straining the lumps out of custard through the gusset of her tights, and Gerrys obsession with his own bout of diarrhea, it was the poorest example of radio I've ever heard.

Is that the kinda crap he comes up with every morning...and people listen to it ?

He played a Christmas song this morning.

    Larry Gogan must've been pissed.

note: I am not a G. Ryan basher, I enjoy listening to him.

did it again today, plugging his Chrimbo CD.

Last year there was a bit of bother because a) RTE dont do christmas sogns before Dec 1st and b) Larry gets first christmas song. Last year Mr R broke those rules but this year with Larry only doing weekends he might have a better case for going first - although of course Larry's show does go on the 1st December.

I'm not really a Ryan basher either, he can do a lot of good stuff, i just hate the ego-centric stuff though. Mrspopebenny hates him with a passion though.

I met him in the bar in dromoland (which he constantly plugs) once.
I can confirm, he is an A$$hole.

I believe Larry's show comes live (if you can call it that) from the nursing home.

Of course you're right though G Ryan's show is probably broadcast from some 'cream-bun' factory, or lavatory.

I'D have to say like him or not it takes fair skill to do three hours of National Radio five days a week - he is a patronising bu**er though and tries to shock with his shyte and masturbation talk....
