... what cars are in these photo's that I've marked? I was browsing through some photo's of old Dublin Buses (I have a bit of an interest in them), and I spotted these two cars that looked unfamiliar. Anyone care to name them:

    d745bdownbp6.jpg
The yellow car to the left of the bus.

    r788web10jh9.jpg
The brown car to the right of the photo, something tells me that it looks like some sort of Opel/Vauxhall though.

I think they're both Datsuns, although I can't either prove it or be more specific.

I think the brown one is a Datsun Laurel and the yellow one is also a Datsun, unsure of the model bit it may be a 140/160J.

Yep - the brown one's a Laurel or 200L and the yellow one is a Datsun 240K I think

I love lookin at older photo's of cars... I'd say they are both Datsuns. Not sure of model

Thanks for the replies. It is a shame that cars like these have been quickly forgotten about in recent years.

As do I. You should watch (if you have never seen it before) the film 'The Commitments'. It shows Dublin back in 1991, and how times have changed. Many pictures here:

Wasn't that the predecessor to the Nissan Skyline?

.........yes I think so, in fact it was badged Skyline in some markets AFAIK.

We recently had a thread here on old Datsun Laurels !

Jez they really vanished didn't they, along with those big Toyota Cressidas and Super Saloons !

I can juts make out the reg of the yellow car, I reckon its 1979/80 and the brown one is a mid 79> model 200L.

Jeez...remember those Orange buses?! I'd forgotton them! You can just see one of the new (Bombardier?) ones on the right! I am only getting one picture for some reason but yeah, that is a 240K, which was marketed in Ireland as a Skyline, have a brochure somewhere.........

i think thats a fairly typical view of those buses...always seemed to me to be half derelict but maybe I only knew them when they were past their best.....i think the Cork ones had a different body to those....

yep the first car is a skyline and the second car is a laurel. I presume the pictures were taken after I977 as the Fiesta is the youngest car in the picture. Im kinda puzzled by the green bus which I think must be on a historical tour as those buses would have been blue and cream in the 70s. I wonder if that bus still exists? It reads Ringsend Garage on the back and has the old Snail CIE Logo on the side.

It could be from the Transport Museum in Howth. I saw one very like it on the quays near the IFSC one Sunday a few months ago

........i'ts after 1979 as the Laurel shown is the facelift version which was sold here from mid 1979 onwards. However I just spotted that white car ahead of the orange bus, its looks like a newer Jap car...............anybody know what it is ??

Also yes the green bus is very similar to the one in the Howth Museum which is an original bus that was used in the Liberties area ! I've just checked, the Museum has a Leyland Titan ZC 714, different bus, wonder where that other one went.......probably scrapped ! :(

I think the white car ahead of the bus is a Datsun Bluebird 910.

Whats the grey one to the left of the bus (partly obscured by the blue Escort )in the same pic. Toyota Carina, mid seventies model I reckon

Those pics are quite familiar, they are from one of the bus preservation websites. IIRC the pic with the Laurel and Escort was taken in 1988. As can be seen there were still loads of seventies cars about then.

..........no I dont thinks its a Bluebird, but you could be right about the year. There were plenty of those cars around then and the hairstyles and clothes dont look very 1970's, no sideburns or flairs !!

The white car appears to have some sort of vent in the "C" pillar and possibly a rear foglight integrated into the rear bumper, the 910 didn't have either. Does look like a Jap though !

In the first picture you can see a Bombardier bus on the right, these first appeared in 1981.

I was thinking it maybe a Honda Accord (third generation).

Actually, giving it a bit of thought now, it looks sort of similar to the white car to the right of the van (and just behind the Nissan Prairie) shown here from the movie "The Commitments":

    302.jpg

I don't think the two white cars are the same. The one in the Commitments photo looks newer although I'm not sure what it is either - jap import Mazda 626? Or even an American Ford.

I still think the first one is a Datsun. The C pillar vent makes it look a bit like a 140J but the overall shape and stance of the car is very Bluebird 910.

The white car looks to me like a Datsun Cherry two door, 1980 model (approx)

The car with the blue arrow is a Corolla from I974-79. The white car is a Mazda Capella (Japanese Mazda 626) and the other car mentioned in front of the bus in the op's thread looks like a Honda Accord or Nissan Bluebird.
