I have my Christmas exam coming up in just over two weeks and I've just realised that I can't answer one full question...I'm ******! I can answer bits of questions but that's not really enough!

Any suggestions on what I can do in such a short timeframe? I'm pretty sure a couple of hours with somebody who knew what they were talking about and a set of solutions would be more than enough to get me a good grade but if I did this exam tomorrow, I'd fail!

    Jay

Well as you say grinds are an option. Other than that there's no miracle solution I'm afraid! Depending on how many other subjects you have, it's reasonable that you could learn a lot in two weeks, if you work hard at it. What subject is it?

I might ask my tutor if he'd be willing to do solutions or give me grinds or both...I'm fairly OK for most other subjects and I know a certain amount of Maths Physics, I just need a bit more help and I'll be able to get a good grade in it!

The topics on the paper are Partial Differentiation eg. f = f(x,y), x = x(u,v) derive d^2f/dudv, d^2f/du^2, d^2f/dv^2 which makes my head explode :p, Lagrange Multipliers, Fourier Series, Double Integrals and Green's Theorem.

I only need to answer 3 questions out of 5 so, it should be OK!

In my experience, college lecturers don't show much imagination when setting papers (especially in UCD). Get your hands on all the solutions to all the past papers you can, memorise them and you might be ok.

Failing that, you could just hide under a pile of coats and hope everything turns out ok.

Oh, a word of advice: if you're struggling, then you're not doing enough work, and you will almost certainly f**k up your degree. I'm speaking from experience, it nearly happened to me.

A little OT, but this isn't what I'd classify as Maths Physics. I recommend you get a book called "Thomas Calculus" from the library. Fantastic book with loads and loads of examples and there are millions of copies.

Yeah, I know I haven't done enough work...but, I did the same last year and did really well :o

Where would I get solutions as these would definitely be enough for me to do well!

Get Thomas Calculus as mentioned above - fúckin deadly book - loads on double integrals and green's theorem. Wiki your subjects too. I always find that a read of wikipedia often leaves me with a better understanding of what I'm studying. Dunno why - it's a bit less technical I guess.

Dunno about the other subjects, but Calculus is a great book. In TCD there's a book called "5000 Solved Calculus Problems" or something similar - another gem for solutions.

Finally, tutorial questions ALWAYS come up in exams, sometimes identical to the tutorial question itself -well worth a look.

    Good luck

Thanks for all the help, I'm not worried so much about what's coming up...I know the exam stays the same pretty much but, I just hope I'll be able to do them by then! I always find questions difficult to do using only my notes so, I rely on tutorials except this year I found my tutor to be very poor
