I've been reading posts on the poker forum and decided it is time for post no 1. Its prob been done 100 times already but I was wondering what yer thoughts were on the decrease in online traffic. Obviously there is a lot less fish around than there was three years ago. Today I logged on to ladbrokes and their cash games are only doing about 30% of the business they were eighteen months ago. Is this an industry wide phenomenon or is it the case where the big rooms have got bigger and many od the rest will cease to exist in a couple of years.

Are you aware of the Ban in the US??

This could take into account for the decrease.

They were always banned from the above site. The above site had a policy of European only players. Theres a number of reasons why any one site would decrease in popularity I was just wondering if it was an industry wide trend.

is it not just a case of more competition in the market?
theres way more sites now than 3-4 years ago.

I didn't know they stopped US players once they left Prima.

As for industry wide trends, well since the US ban it's obviously slowed down alot and with the increased competition for a smaller market it could probably account for the decrease in Laddies. But I haven't played there in years so I'm sure someone else might be able to comment on them.

I didn't think they were ever part of the Prima/Microgaming network - they just used the same software afaik, but I migth be wrong. I joined Ladbrokes 3 or 4 years ago and they were definitely not allowing US players then, long before the general ban there is on them now on other sites. I think being a long established and in general respected UK bookmaker they just did not want to get involved in what was even then the muddy waters of operating with US customers.

I would like to put my spoke in....
The port act ban has had a lot to do with it. As a result of this many have tried the stand alone approach (which is what Lads already were). Betfair, Sky and WH. To add to this many of the sites reacted by consolidating into the networks. Of late Bet365 moved to Playtech and Mansion have gone to Ongame driving liquidity upwards in both networks.
Speculatively Laddies havent moved with the times, they have not moved to consolidate nor have they created a USP allowing them to thrive as standalone yet they are still posting record profits.
    Go figure :p

Yea I think they were always an independent network with their own software which is very like prima. Im not sure who copied who. I don't think they will be independent for too much longer though!!!

They were / are independant (stand alone) but they are using a bespoke version of Prima Software just not tapping into the critical mass (which is sorely depleted I might add).

I'm not sure, when I played there about 7 or 8 years ago, (whenever LNP was first on TV) I thought they were on Prima, but again I could be mistaken, I was pretty clueless back then.

I'm guessing that the 'record profits' are for the Ladbrokes Group as a whole, which wouldn't necessarily mean the their Poker arm is seeing an increase in profits.

Laddies issued their trading update y'day http://investors.ladbrokesplc.com/news-filter

The one mention of poker was:

Ladbrokes said net revenue grew in sportsbook, casino and games but this growth was partially offset by slightly weaker margins and lower poker net revenue in what it described as “a very competitive market.”

Top of the heap are the two US sites FT and Stars
    Then
    Party
    Then
    Ipoker
    Ongame

whatever yadda yadda Lads are not even in the top 15 any more.

It's not a mystery, Laddies has been hurting quite badly with their online poker bottom lines and haven't at all being posting record profits in that area, but their egaming is obviously only a fraction of their business.

As for creating a USP it's funny you should say that because this week they are bringing in 3-D "virtual reality" to their tables with moving human avatars and VoIP so people can talk to each other out loud.

Probably been posted before but http://www.pokersitescout.com/ shows the traffic on all sites/networks and by game/level.

Stars is by far the the biggest, almost double anyone else. FT, Party and iPoker, close 2nd, 3rd amd 4th, varying depending on time of day.

Big thing with Ladbrokes is that you can go into a shop and deposit or withdraw money using your card like with an ATM. I think that is their USP, although that is never going to affect more than the smaller games.

I know you can put money into your account in a PP shop, but pity that you can't also withdraw in the shop. Especially considering the reasonable difficulty and cost of getting even a debit card in Ireland.

I've noticed iPoker are getting very close to overtaking Party as the no.3 according to http://www.pokersitescout.com/ :D.
As I'm not exactly Party's biggest fan that would be nice ;)

Notice too that Ultimatebet seems to be makign a bit of a comeback, what's the story there?
