Steve Coast will be giving a talk about OpenStreetMap in the HEAnet offices, in the IFSC, Dublin on Thursday the 22nd of November at 7pm.
    All are welcome.
OpenStreetMap is a project aimed squarely at creating and providing free geographic data such as street maps to anyone who wants them. The project was started because most maps you think of as free actually have legal or technical restrictions on their use, holding back people from using them in creative, productive or unexpected ways. Steve Coast, founder of OpenStreetMap, explains.

Steve Coast is bringing over GPS units to loan out so there will be a mapping weekend in Dublin the weekend after his talk [Sat 24th - Sun 25th November], and thereby get any new converts up to speed quickly.

Is this actually a talk about mapping/co-ordinate systems/uses/legal/etc or is he just over to recruit mappers?

Not entirely sure to be honest with you but from reading one of the mailing lists they are doing a "mapping weekend" in Dublin with some spare units he's bringing over as well.
